Episode 24 - The Invisible Load: Stress and the Price Paid by the Body

I went to the dentist because of tooth sensitivity. What I found wasn’t a dental problem—it was pressure. In this episode, I break down how unrecognized stress started showing up physically: jaw clenching, weight gain, fatigue, and disrupted routines. Not as isolated issues, but as outcomes of a system under pressure. This is not about motivation. It’s about understanding the structure behind the problem. I explore: * How stress is built over time, not triggered by a single event * The impact of financial dependence, relocation, and living abroad * The reality of distance and reduced contact as a parent * How stress translates into behavior and physiological responses * Why my recent weight gain was not random—and not accidental I also share what I changed: * Simplifying nutrition by removing variability (including skipping breakfast) * Using data to track trends, not chase perfection * Reframing training as a regulation tool, not performance * Using this podcast as a way to structure thinking under pressure * Finding stability through community, including my experience with The Kettlebell Gym Key idea: Stress is not always visible. But the body keeps track. Tagline: Stay capable. Even when life isn’t stable. If you’ve experienced: * unexplained weight changes * mental fatigue while traveling * difficulty maintaining consistency this episode provides a structured way to look at it—without shortcuts or illusions. The Kettlebell Gym [https://www.facebook.com/groups/162820140749877] I’m part of a Facebook community called The Kettlebell Gym. It’s a space where people consistently show up, train, and share their work. Nothing exaggerated—just exposure to others doing the basics well. In periods where my own environment becomes unstable, having that kind of reference point helps bring some structure back. 🎧 Walk with me—literally and figuratively. Episode 23 - Aging Strong — Demographics, Muscle Loss, and Functional Longevity

Europe is aging rapidly — and countries like Portugal are at the center of this demographic shift. As millions of people move into their 50s and 60s over the coming decade, an important question emerges: how will we age? In this episode of Aging Strong with Hugo, we explore sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength that begins earlier than most people realize. But muscle loss is only part of the story. We also discuss dynapenia, mobility decline, bone health, and why modern sedentary lifestyles accelerate physical deterioration. More importantly, we examine how functional training — including tools like kettlebells, steel maces, and movement-based strength training — can help maintain mobility, resilience, and independence well into later decades of life. Drawing from both scientific insights and personal experience documented in the book 50 & Beyond: Transforming Through Functional Training as a Single Father, this episode reflects on what it means to age with strength rather than decline. If Europe is getting older, the real challenge is simple: can we also grow stronger? Topics discussed: * Sarcopenia and age-related muscle loss * Dynapenia and the decline of strength * Aging demographics in Europe and Portugal * Functional training for longevity * Strength, independence, and aging well after 40 Recommended listening During the preparation of this episode I came across an interesting Portuguese podcast discussing similar themes around aging and health. If you speak Portuguese, it may be worth exploring: The Aging back Club https://open.spotify.com/show/3m7Jud67rVvlN7AjDnMzoL?si=141a04cf70b6412a It offers additional perspectives on how lifestyle, movement, and training influence the aging process. 🎧 Walk with me—literally and figuratively. Episode 22 - Rebuilding Capacity with Indian Clubs and Simple Tools

In this episode, I share a real-life snapshot of what rebuilding capacity actually looks like after illness, stress, and a forced slowdown. After dealing with pre-stage pneumonia, I had to step back, reassess my routines, and rethink what training is really for. This isn’t a comeback story. It’s a rebuild story. We talk about why Indian Clubs remain a central tool in my training, how revisiting fundamentals from my Steel Club Certification changed the way I see simple tools, and how clubs complement kettlebell work for long-term joint health and durability. I also explore the connection between stress, bad food choices, blood pressure, and recovery, and why I now use training as a form of regulation rather than escape. Inside this episode: * Rebuilding physical and mental capacity after illness * Why simple tools often outperform complex programs * Indian Clubs as joint preparation, mobility, and strength * Designing a training environment for consistency * Getting back to sport without rushing * Podcasts and mental inputs shaping my thinking * Journaling as a healing and grounding practice * Choosing capacity over aesthetics If you’re coming back from a setback, burnout, or long pause, this episode offers a grounded perspective on building strength that supports real life. Strong isn’t a look. Strong is a life skill. 🎧 Walk with me—literally and figuratively. episode Episodio 1 (S2) - Movimento, capacidade ativa depois dos 40 e 50 cover

Bra app. Oversiktlig og ryddig. MYE bra innhold⭐️⭐️⭐️
