Are educational courses a viable alternative to prosecution for some motoring offences?

Is it right that drivers are offered courses instead of prosecution for certain motoring offences? That's the topic of discussion today as we continue to navigate towards Project EDWARD's week of action on the 17th October. Chief Constable Jo Shiner, roads policing lead for the national police chiefs council and Ruth Purdie OBE, chief executive of UKROEd are our guest on this episode. You can find the NPCC here [https://www.npcc.police.uk]. You can find UKROEd here [https://www.ukroed.org.uk/]. Project EDWARD [https://projectedward.org/] (Every Day Without A Road Death) is an annual UK-wide road safety campaign backed by government, the emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations and British businesses. The Campaign, Managed by Projects Zero, promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury. Our aim is to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country to promote: * Safe Vehicles * Safe Road Use * Safe Speed * Safe Roads and Roadsides * Post Crash Care For more information on the Safe System, visit: www.pacts.org.uk/safe-system [http://www.pacts.org.uk/safe-system] You can find ProjectEDWARD in the following places: Website: https://projectedward.org/ [https://projectedward.org/] Twitter: https://twitter.com/ProjectEdward [https://twitter.com/ProjectEdward] Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ProjectEDWARDRoadSafety [https://www.facebook.com/ProjectEDWARDRoadSafety] LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/projectedward/ [https://www.linkedin.com/company/projectedward/] Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/projectedward/ [https://www.instagram.com/projectedward/] YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFYfytnzfKvX90TmkX2_LDQ [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFYfytnzfKvX90TmkX2_LDQ]

If your tyres don't stop you, what will?

We are fast approaching the beginning of the 2022 Tyre Safety Month, in October, so who better to join us than Jason Simms the comms lead for TyreSafe [https://www.tyresafe.org/] – and Stuart Lovatt its new Chair. Jason and Stuart explain the importance of tyre maintenance and the need for greater public awareness. We're also delighted to be able to share a presentation by professor, Nick Reed [https://www.linkedin.com/in/drnickreed/]. Nick has spent more than fifteen years at the sharp end of transportation research, and he talks to us about what do we seek from technology and mobility. episode Driving for Better Business cover

Driving for Better Business

This week we shine the spotlight on the 'Driving for Better Business' podcast as we take a look at fatigue in driving. Host Simon Turner talks with Dr Paul Jackson, a Chartered Psychologist specialising in human performance who has assisted safety-critical organisations to implement fatigue risk management systems for more than 20 years. In particular they look at a landmark legal case in which the Office of Rail and Road successfully prosecuted an employer for health and safety breaches, as a result of two of its employees being killed in a road traffic collision where driver fatigue was identified as the primary cause. You can check out Driving for Better business, and the podcast, here [https://www.drivingforbetterbusiness.com/podcast/episode/driver-fatigue-not-just-a-tick-box/]. episode 30 years of pushing for more driver education cover

30 years of pushing for more driver education

This week we look back over the last 30 years at the early days of what were once called driver diversion schemes – the alternatives to prosecution pioneered by certain police forces and now available across England and Wales through UKROEd and the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme. We talked with road safety pioneers: Ian Aspinall, Karen Stringer and Neil Cunliffe and invited them to reflect on the opportunities and challenges they faced as they lay the foundations for what is now a key part of our justice system… Project EDWARD [https://projectedward.org/] (Every Day Without A Road Death) is an annual UK-wide road safety campaign backed by government, the emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations and British businesses. Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
