Perhaps you weren't affected, but for thousands of people in western Oregon, Tuesday night's windstorm took out their electricity.  You don't really notice how much ambient light is present in your home, until it's not there anymore. And if the power comes back on during the night, even the tiniest glow of an indicator light on a small appliance or digital device can wake you up... because something has changed... light has come. In these weeks leading up to Christmas we're uncovering the radical, redemptive plan of God hidden within the Christmas story; His divine mission to break the power of darkness in our world and reclaim broken hearts and lives - not by force, but by the Light of love. Connecticut father of four, Abe Donsky is credited with inventing the first modern electric nightlight in 1965. Fear of the dark is one of the most common childhood fears. But it's not just the kids who are afraid of darkness; many adults - though they may not want to admit it - are also afraid of the dark. Darkness robs us of our strongest and most valuable sense - our ability to see. It started about three months ago - and I was (almost) completely in the dark. There were forces plotting and scheming behind my back. Secret meetings were held, and covert communiques were happening. There was even some deception involved. Eventually, ALL of YOU were pulled into the scheming. And I? I had no idea what was going on. It was a carefully crafted conspiracy - of kindness and love - designed to surprise me with blessing and encouragement after 25 years of being a pastor here at Dayspring. A conspiracy is usually a harmful or illegal plot, hatched in secret by two or more people. But it can also refer to any secret course of action taken by a group of people to bring about a given result. BLESSED | Part 4 | A Grateful Heart | Michelle Snook

It's turkey time! Or, maybe in your household it's ham or prime rib, or maybe enchiladas or pizza. Whatever you eat, wherever you are, whoever you're with, I hope your heart is filled with gratitude.  And speaking of gratitude, what are you grateful for this year? The answer to that question is often linked to people we love, things we have, or memories we've made. And we should absolutely be grateful for all of those people, things and memories. But I also think there's more...    This week, we'll be wrapping up our series, BLESSED: Living a Life God Blesses. Throughout this series, we've looked at different postures of the heart that invite God's blessing in our lives and reflect His nature through our lives. This week we're looking at the posture of gratitude. It's easy to be grateful when life is good. But how about when loss, pain, or difficulty weigh you down?
