episode Banking on Death Audiobook by Emma Lathen cover

Banking on Death Audiobook by Emma Lathen

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Banking on Death Author: Emma Lathen Narrator: Deaver Brown Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 11 mins Language: English Release date: 01-18-18 Publisher: Simply Media Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective Publisher's Summary: Wall Street banker John Thatcher is drawn into this mystery as a financial man seeking to get his bank repaid. In this case it relates to a trust fund administered by the Sloan group, with an heir missing and then killed. Note: The audio for this title has noise issues at the beginning and end of each file/chapter. Members Reviews: Love the story... Hate the typos Have been a JP Thatcher fan for years and a devoted Kindle user since I first discovered them ... BUT as a retired English teacher and former newspaper editor, am really distressed by all of the errors found in these books. Will continue to purchase them, but wish I could make the corrections as I am reading so that I would have a corrected version when I choose to reread them. Why did this go out of print? This series was a new discovery for me, even though the books are long out of print. Emma Lathen is the clever nom de plume of a pair of authors, whose contributions to the whole are so well interlaced that I am unable to distinguish between the two voices. The book is a mystery in the form of the golden age classics. Well plotted, good characters, interesting sleuth, with many humorous and witty lines. I intend to read the whole series. Emma Lathen is under read and is a great series for mystery buffs My Aunt introduced me to her in the 1980s when I was looking for a new series. The protagonist is a SVP of banking at a giant NY bank back n the day when NYC controlled everything. John Thatcher gets roped in to save the investment of his bank. The causes seem obviously emotional but always come down to money. He sniffs it out with the help of his wonderful cronies, playboy but good banker Charles, straight laced Everett, young Nichols, and secretary Miss Corsa who keeps everything straight. His bosses the Pres and Chairman are busy being social and useless, but great fun. A much under rated series. When you find ne, let me know! Five Stars Enjoyed the book. I liked the banking angle to a mystery. Disappointed I found the plot slow and plodding with little character development. I could not visualize people or places due to lack of description. This was not an intriguing or interesting mystery.

episode A Reflection of Evil Audiobook by William Todd cover

A Reflection of Evil Audiobook by William Todd

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: A Reflection of Evil Subtitle: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery Author: William Todd Narrator: Ben Werling Format: Unabridged Length: 2 hrs and 4 mins Language: English Release date: 01-05-18 Publisher: William Robert Todd Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective Publisher's Summary: After months of inactivity, Holmes and Watson have two cases thrust in their lap in a single day. First, a mysterious woman from Swansea, Wales, seeks Holmes' help finding her husband who has disappeared in the middle of the night. As soon as she leaves, Holmes receives word that there has been a prison riot with several dead and a few inmates missing. Lestrade is asking for his services. Holmes believes the two cases are not a coincidence, but he has no idea who is behind it and to what end. They go to Swansea in what could be either a wild goose chase or a setup. Will Holmes unravel the mystery before they get to Swansea? If not what will be in store for them when they step off the train? Members Reviews: Excellent addition to the series! A definite good addition to the franchise, while factoring the story into current series. The plausibility is excellent and the time frame of the story is believable. I am looking forward to any installments from Mr. Todd. Well done! What's not to like? Not a bad read. Especially if you are a Sherlock Holmes fan. Another case for Sherlock Holmes Sherlock Holmes â or rather Arthur Conan Doyle â has provided an endless supply of entertainment and stories with books, movies and TV series for fans of the genre. In this short, fast-paced novella, Todd has done a credible job of maintaining that Sherlock Holmes style and has captured the familiar characters well. I was not disappointed. A few minor typos. A fun, quick read. Todd certainly captured the feel of classic Sherlock Holmes in this short novella. It will certainly be enjoyable to anyone looming for an enjoyable read of 1-2 hours. My only complaint would be one of asking for more! Great book ! I started reading and could not put it down. Kept you guessing . You will really enjoy this book. A great Sherlock Holmes mystery.

Members Reviews: An extremely good primer What made the experience of listening to Crime/Mystery Starter Library the most enjoyable? The stories, which I thoroughly enjoyed and also the narrator, who gave a good performance of all the books. What did you like best about this story? That's a hard one. It's not one story. I think I liked the first story best, even though I didn't manage to solve it. What about Richard Wards performance did you like? Variation. The English books were delivered with an English accent and the American ones with the American accent. Voices were also well done. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? Hardly. It's very long and incorporates four different books but I liked the idea of getting stories by authors I'd never heard of before. Any additional comments? This is one I'll probably listen to again once I've forgotten the stories a bit. For their era, they're well written and (mostly) tightly plotted.

episode Portrait of a Murderer Audiobook by Anne Meredith cover

Portrait of a Murderer Audiobook by Anne Meredith

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Portrait of a Murderer Author: Anne Meredith Narrator: Simon Darwen Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 41 mins Language: English Release date: 12-01-17 Publisher: Soundings Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 10 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective Publisher's Summary: Adrian Gray was born in May 1862 and met his death through violence, at the hands of one of his own children, at Christmas, 1931. Thus begins a classic crime novel published in 1933, a riveting portrait of the psychology of a murderer. Each December, Adrian Gray invites his extended family to stay at his lonely house, King's Poplars. None of Gray's six surviving children is fond of him; several have cause to wish him dead. The family gathers on Christmas Eve - and by the following morning, their wish has been granted. This fascinating and unusual audiobook tells the story of what happened that dark Christmas night - and what the murderer did next. Members Reviews: great book Great book. Different murder premise. I really enjoyed reading this book. Anything but cosy! I gather that this is the fiftieth forgotten classic to be issued in the British Library series. I have read nearly all of them and in many ways find this the most difficult to review. The plot is, on the surface, simple. Adrian Gray is murdered in the library of his house, Kingâs Poplars, deep in the heart of Grebeshire, at Christmas. The murderer is one of his six children. The culprit is revealed one fifth of the way into the book. The remainder provides a psychological study of that person and a little detection, both professional and amateur. To say more would be too revealing. The Gray family members, and some of their spouses, are mostly eminently dislikeable. I found the murderer to be one of the most egocentric and hateful I have encountered in Golden Age fiction-a tribute to the vivid portrayal at which Anne Meredith excels. The only jarring note in her pen portraits is the casual anti-Semitism, so typical of this period, and so unacceptable. I cannot say I enjoyed reading this book although it was undoubtedly compelling. The writing is excellent and the concept is brilliantly carried through. Avid readers of Golden Age British detection might like to compare this with Christieâs 1938 novel, âHercule Poirotâs Christmasâ. In my opinion, âPortrait of a Murdererâ is vastly superior. This edition comes with an informative Introduction by Martin Edwards which ends:- âYet Portrait of a Murderer is notable for its portrayal of character and social comment, and illustrates the truth that, contrary to widespread belief, a good many crime novels written during âthe Golden Age of murderâ between the two world wars were anything but cosy.â Be warned! In the bleak midwinter... Every Christmas, the Gray family gather at the home of their elderly father, Adrian Gray â a rather unpleasant, miserly sort of man who has produced an equally unpleasant bunch of children on the whole. This Christmas, in 1931, only a couple of the children are there out of any feelings of affection â most are trying to screw money out of the old man. There's Richard, a politician who desperately wants a title, but feels he needs to put on a show of wealth to impress the people who could grant his wish. Eustace is a son-in-law, married to Adrian's daughter Olivia â a dodgy financier, his whole reputation is on the line if he doesn't manage to raise a substantial sum of money urgently. Brand is the most wayward of them all, having run off in his youth to try his hand at being an artist.
