Can you think of a piece of wisdom that has served you well in life? What is it? Where or from whom did you learn it? 2. Read James 3:13-18. What elements does James say describe godly wisdom? Which of those stands out to you and why? 3. Read Proverbs 9:10. Why do you think Solomon said fearing God is the necessary starting point for being wise? 4. When people talk about finding and following God’s will, they are often looking for God to give direction in very specific life decisions. What role does general godly wisdom, like we find the book of Proverbs, play in discerning God’s leading in such life decisions? What should a person do if their sense of God’s leading seems to be in conflict with the general wisdom given in Scripture?

Have you ever encountered  an issue where you really wanted to know if God had a specific plan for your life? If so, what was it? 2. When it comes to finding God’s will, what are some ways you or people you know have tried to determine it? Which of those methods have you found helpful? Have you seen any that seem risky or unreliable? 3. Marriage is certainly one area where people often want to be sure they know God’s will. Read 1 Corinthians 7:39-40. How does Paul handle this very important topic? Is that at all surprising? Why or why not. 4. Read Matthew 6:9-10. This is the opening of Jesus’ model prayer for his disciples. When Jesus instructed us to pray for God’s will to be done, what was he was asking for?

The idea of submitting & obeying come up several times. In your own life have these terms been positive or negative concepts? Why or why not? 2. Paul’s emphasis up to this point has been the unity of the church – all whom Paul describes as being “in Christ”. Why do you think he suddenly pivots from that big group concept to talking about private household relationships? 3. Looking at the counsel Paul gives to women, men, children, masters and servants, does it appear the ask he makes of each is fair? Is Paul asking more of any one role than another? 4. Thinking about where you personally fit into interpersonal relationships Paul describes, how do you personally find this challenging?
