Scott Fox and the StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] team are listening — comment below! 👇 In this free Startup Fundraising Office Hours episode, CEO Scott Fox answered questions from founders worldwide, on camera and via chat. The focus: helping entrepreneurs accelerate fundraising and better position themselves with angel investors and venture capital firms. Mustafa, Irvine, CA: A medical doctor and AI developer, he pitched A1 Diagnosis, using a blood-based AI platform to detect macular degeneration risk years early. He is raising $1.5M for lab certification with a 70% margin target. Scott praised the clarity, unit economics, and team, but advised slowing down “first-of-its-kind” claims and adjusting the raise to either $500K or $3–4M to avoid a difficult middle range. John, Tustin, CA: He asked about side letters with SAFE agreements and investor update frequency. Scott explained side letters add protections like information rights and MFN clauses. He also stressed consistent communication — founders should regularly update investors to maintain trust and support future fundraising. Michael, Corona, CA: An MBA student recently laid off, he pitched a media and marketing agency focused on adaptive storytelling, seeking $50K toward $200K. Scott praised his delivery but noted agency models don’t fit VC expectations due to limited scalability. He suggested focusing on networking and industry connections instead. Manuel, Orange County, CA: Asked about investors partnering with contractors in construction. Scott noted this was outside his expertise and recommended SBDC and SCORE for relevant guidance. Sunil, Patna, India: Asked about the key trait of a resilient global startup. Scott said revenue growth is most critical, adding that diversified supply chains and remote teams improve resilience. Aaron, Dallas, Texas: Asked about Reg D vs Reg CF. Scott explained Reg D targets accredited investors for larger raises, while Reg CF allows public investment up to $5M. He noted #crowdfunding works best with an existing audience and simple, compelling products. And as always, founders asked where to find early-stage investors. Live #Startup Pitch Coaching + Free Angel Investor Strategy Members Q&A @ StartupCouncil.org

Free Startup Fundraising Advice & Investor Pitch Practice with Scott Fox, CEO of StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] 🚀 StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] delivers free, no-strings #startup #VC #mentoring for #entrepreneurs tackling #fundraising, #venturecapital, and #businessstrategy challenges — plus supportive group critiques of real #founder #investorpitches. In this month’s free Startup Fundraising Office Hours, Scott Fox hosted a packed global Q&A with #startupfriends joining from Philadelphia, Tustin, Irvine, New York City, London, Atlanta, Oakland, Vancouver, Bangalore, and more. The goal: help #startup #founders move faster toward raising capital from angels, #familyoffices, and #venturecapital firms. * Mary from Philadelphia asked how to find #familyoffice investors. Scott advised combining targeted Google searches with curated tools like the StartupInvestorsDirectory. Founders should verify stage focus, check size, and sector alignment before outreach. Warm introductions through attorneys, CPAs, and portfolio founders significantly improve response rates. As always, the #1 question resurfaced: where do I find early-stage investors who fit? Answer: disciplined research using Google + structured directories. 🔍 * John from Tustin asked how VCs exit and what returns they seek. Scott explained core #venturecapital math: most funds operate on a 10-year lifecycle and need outsized wins — often targeting 10x returns on breakout deals. If your #startup cannot realistically reach a large-scale exit, traditional VC may not be the right capital source. Investor alignment is critical. * Mustafa from Irvine pitched his #AI-powered #medtech startup for the fourth time. The improvement was clear — tighter problem framing, clearer regulatory path, sharper market focus. The takeaway: strong #investorpitches are built through repetition and feedback. * Chelsea from New York City asked how to recruit a technical co-founder. Scott’s practical view: traction attracts talent. Engineers rarely leave stable jobs for unvalidated ideas. Build prototypes, validate demand, and demonstrate execution momentum before expecting equity-only commitment. * Nithen from London raised questions about #AI’s impact on #venturecapital, current #B2C appetite, and SAFE notes. Scott noted that while AI compresses software development cycles, capital still flows to teams with defensible distribution and scalable economics. On SAFEs (#SAFE), founders must understand valuation caps, discounts, and be cautious of investor side letters that alter standard terms. Conversion typically occurs at the next priced round or liquidity event. * Mustafa also asked about valuing a pre-revenue #biotech company. Scott emphasized comparable transactions and milestone-based progress rather than revenue metrics. * Orrett from Atlanta discussed #cleanenergy fundraising via NGOs and U.S. government programs like SBIR and ARPA. Scott encouraged pursuing non-dilutive funding to validate technology while preserving equity. * Darla from Oakland asked how to attract investors to hospital billing software without signed contracts. Advice: secure LOIs, pilot agreements, and realistic competitive positioning. Investors fund traction signals, not just slides. Throughout the session, live chat added sharp insights, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] community. 📅 Startup Office Hours streams LIVE every 4th Tuesday at 9:00pm PT / 12:00am ET. Founders can submit questions or practice pitches in advance, with on-camera priority for members.

Free Startup Pitch Practice + Angel Investor Q&A w/ StartupCouncil.org and #StartupFriends Worldwide

In this episode of our free Startup Fundraising Office Hours, StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] CEO Scott Fox took lots of questions from #startupfriends worldwide - both on camera and via chat. These mostly focused on helping #startup #founders accelerate their fundraising process to raise money from angel investors and venture capital firms, including: This show was live on camera, Scott Fox talked with StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] Members, including: * Pratishka, San Diego / Orange County: She asked how to find strategic investors for Co-Cardio, a preventive cardiology franchise that focuses on cash-pay wellness, and Scott advised her to pivot away from venture capital toward the franchise world or individual doctors who understand cash-pay models. * Mike, Laguna Woods, CA: He asked if taking small early funding could ruin his chances with major accelerators like Y Combinator, and Scott warned that high early valuations can "price you out" of standard accelerator terms while emphasizing the need for due diligence on all investors. * Mustafa, Irvine, CA (UC Irvine): He returned to practice his much-improved investor pitch for his medical device AI software startup A1 Diagnosis. Scott recommended focusing the pitch on the revenue model, specifically Medicare reimbursement, and clarifying that the solution is software-based. * Sean, Delaware: He asked about the new differentiators for founders now that AI tools like Codeium are making product development much cheaper, and Scott noted that core differentiators will shift toward high-level organization, executive function, and human empathy. * Kyle, Orange County, CA: He pitched Smart Nosis, a concussion monitoring app for contact sports and schools, and Scott suggested including specific contract values and financial numbers in the pitch to demonstrate the actual scale of the business. Plus, Scott and the chat room audience together answered many questions from the live chat, as well as sharing feedback from other viewers who offered suggestions and advice for each other. Live Startup Pitching & Angel Investor VC Insights: Scott Fox StartupCouncil.org CEO

For December’s FREE Startup Fundraising Office Hours, StartupCouncil.org [http://StartupCouncil.org] CEO Scott Fox welcomed startup founders, entrepreneurs, and innovators from around the world for another high-energy, value-packed session. As always, the discussion focused on helping early-stage startup founders accelerate their fundraising process and improve their chances of successfully raising capital from angel investors and venture capital firms. The session covered a wide range of startup industries, including AI, medical devices, software, robotics, education, and mental health, highlighting the diversity of innovation happening worldwide. * Mustafa from Orange County, California practiced his investor pitch for his medical device and software startup, receiving guidance on how to clearly explain a complex healthcare solution to non-technical investors, position regulatory strategy, and emphasize market demand. * Byron also practiced his investor pitch. He is seeking venture capital funding for his educational robotics kits, and received feedback on refining his value proposition, clarifying the buyer, and addressing common investor concerns around sales cycles in education technology. * Jonathan from Austin, Texas recently completed an AI coding training program and practiced his venture capital pitch for a new AI agent service he plans to launch soon. Scott shared advice on standing out in the crowded AI market, clearly defining use cases, and communicating traction and differentiation to investors. * Mojeed from Phoenix asked important questions about structuring a new AI company, including entity setup, positioning for investors, and how to think about early-stage strategy before fundraising. * Edie from San Francisco asked Scott about current investor interest in her mental health startup, leading to a discussion about trends in mental health funding, impact-driven businesses, and how founders can frame their story to align with investor priorities. * May asked in the live chat about the seasonality of pitching investors, and whether cold emails and online submissions are effective. Scott explained that cold outreach is generally not effective — with one important exception, which he shared during the session. In addition, Scott answered many questions from the live chat and highlighted excellent suggestions, feedback, and advice shared by other viewers. As usual, many founders asked about the best resource for finding early-stage investors interested in startups like theirs. Scott’s answer: Google combined with the Startup Investors Directory at https://www.StartupInvestorsDirectory.com [https://www.StartupInvestorsDirectory.com]. And much more, as always.
