Our New Jingle with Music Generation Galway City

We’re excited to share a special feature episode of the Galway City – Your Council podcast, diving into the creative process behind our brand‑new podcast jingle. This episode was produced in collaboration with Music Generation Galway City and created alongside two talented young musicians, Arthur and Isaac, who took the lead in crafting the new jingle. While Galway City Council provided the broad brief, Arthur and Isaac – supported by their Music Educator Emma Lohan – shaped the sound from the ground up. Using an audio mixer, drum machine and synth, they met over several sessions to experiment, refine ideas, and build the melody and rhythm that give the jingle its unique character. Their creativity, collaboration, and musical instinct are at the heart of the final piece you’ll hear. David Boland, Music Development Officer and Emma Lohan, Music Educator from Music Generation Galway City also join us to talk about the impact of music for young people, the range of Music Generation projects happening across the city, and how creativity, collaboration and youth voice came together to bring this jingle to life. Lego, in Galway City Museum?

The Galway City – Your Council podcast is back for a special feature episode, focusing on Galway City Museum’s newest exhibit by Lego brick artist Jessica Farrell. Leonard Cleary, Chief Executive, Galway City Council

Kate Howard

In this episode, we meet Galway City Council’s first ‘Night Time Economy Officer’, Kate Howard.   This is a new role and a new area of work for Galway City, which is one of eight pilot Night Time Economy cities and towns in Ireland.   The Night-Time Economy (NTE) encompasses a broad range of stakeholders, and offers diverse activities such as cultural events, entertainment, hospitality, festivals, community, sports, and retail, between 6pm and 6am. The vision for Galway's Night-Time Economy is to build upon and maintain Galway’s vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive night-time experience for residents, workers, and visitors.   Kate speaks about her role, the Galway City Night Time Economy Action Plan, recent pilots such as Youth Lates and Café Lates, and the opportunities for Galway City to build a more vibrant, inclusive and diverse night time economy.   Kate has a background in fine art, and as a cultural producer, creating and producing exciting and unforgettable arts and cultural experiences. Robert Steed

Our guest this week is Robert Steed, a Craft Gardener with the Recreation and Amenity Department of Galway City Council. After graduating with a degree in Countryside Management from the University of Wales, Rob has collected a wealth of experience from working with the Western Regional Fisheries Board and then with The Burren National Park as a Conservation Ranger. Rob joined the Galway City team four years ago where he primarily looks after the Healthy Green Spaces Initiative. This project works with several resident associations across the city and Rob designs, creates and manages summer native wildflower meadows. These meadows are to help support our native pollinators and biodiversity.
