10,000 Seats. Zero Candidates. One Woman Fixing That — And the Complicated Truth Around Authenticity at Work, Showing Up as Yourself, and Rebuilding Community.

What if the reason nothing is changing isn't apathy — it's vacancy? In 2024, 70% of elections across the United States went completely uncontested. Ten thousand open seats had zero candidates on the ballot. Zero. Not unpopular candidates, not bad candidates — no one at all. And many of those seats? School boards. City councils. Local offices that directly shape the schools your kids attend, the roads you drive on, and the safety of your neighborhood. Today's guest has made it her mission to change that. Amanda Litman is the co-founder and president of Run for Something, an organization that recruits and supports young, diverse progressives running for down-ballot office. Her alumni have gone on to win over 1,500 races across 49 states — and five of them are now sitting in Congress.  This conversation goes way beyond politics. We get into the complicated truth about authenticity at work — why we're told to "just be ourselves" while women, and especially women of color, are consistently penalized for doing exactly that. We talk about personality tests, the discomfort of seeing your flaws on paper, and how to actually grow from feedback instead of being crushed by it. And Amanda's year of Saturday dinners. Fifty meals. 141 adults. 80 kids. And one powerful argument for why rebuilding community, one dinner table at a time, might be one of the most radical things any of us can do right now. This is a hopemaxxing episode. Come ready to feel like things can actually get better. Come for the guest, stay for the conversation, leave with something to talk about. Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
Bra app. Oversiktlig og ryddig. MYE bra innhold⭐️⭐️⭐️
