News and commentary for Monday, 19 May, 2025. There are smokescreens upon smokescreens to cover limited hangouts that obscure even more parts of the story you’re not supposed to hear.

In Proverbs chapter 3, King Solomon writes to his children to “bind his Torah around their neck.” What does it mean to bind something around your neck? How do you “write” something on your heart? It seems that Solomon is instructing us to take action, but hasn’t it “all been done for us”? What are the three things Torah does for us? Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this final episode of the series by expounding on how pursuing the Torah of Yahweh can bring peace into your life. Then, moving into Jeremiah chapter 23, Rabbi Berkson ties it to Proverbs chapter 3 and discusses the responsibility of being a proper anointed/appointed teacher of the scriptures. How did the teachers of Jeremiah’s day scatter the people? For what were they being reprimanded and punished? Is there a Messianic reference in this chapter? How is Yahweh going to fix the problem of inadequate and problematic teachers? Moving on from Jeremiah to Luke chapter 8, we see the event where Yeshua, leaving His disciples in charge of getting them to the other side, took a nap. Then a great storm came upon them, causing the disciples to cry out, “Master, we are perishing!” Rabbi Berkson points out a great deal of insight from the telling of this event in the Gospel of Luke that can be applied to our life today. In Colossians chapter 3, Rabbi Berkson teaches about “the Above,” the world that is Yahweh’s, and “the Below,” the world that is not His. The Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) of two-part Double-parsha “Kedoshim,” then “Emor,” Leviticus chapters 19 through 24, is what Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship suggests is an interesting combination, given the number and relationships of the multitude of statutes, judgments, and commandments in this section.
