Welcome back relatives! This week on the Podcast I speak with Alex DeRoin, a fellow Osage Okie. Alex is a Two-Spirit artist, poet, storyteller, and awarded water protector. Their passion lies in creating safe spaces in marginalized communites. Where being queer and 2 spirit can be an even more isolating existence. Part of their resistance work is Pioneering the LANDADAISM art movement. A movement that utilizes a unique cross-pollination of indigiqueer ecology and the art of Dadaists' collage principles as metaphor. They co-founded Kinshipmodel.org [http://Kinshipmodel.org], a nonprofit focused on civic education and voter engagement in the Osage Nation.

An Indigenous-led sports media platform amplifying Native athletes, with a deep focus on lacrosse, also known as The Creator’s Game by the Haudenosaunee. Alongside his cousin Brandon and brother Dominic, Davy has helped build a space where interviews, photography, production, and play-by-play are for us and by us -with Native athletes and coaches offering commentary straight from the sidelines, before and after the game. When he’s not shooting lacrosse, Davy works in film and TV production here in NYC, experience that’s clearly shaped the way Decolonize Sports is telling our stories with intention and skill. I first met Sunny during Indigenous New York Fashion Week and immediately knew she had a story that needed to be shared. In this episode, we talk about the many lives Sun Roller has lived, her journey into film and television production, and her work on Reservation Dogs, Poker Face, and The Lowdown. Beyond the credits, Sunny carries a deeply human and generous spirit. Our conversation took an unexpected turn into emotion, presence, and healing, ending with a powerful two-minute solar break meditation that brings us back to breath and the present moment. Sun Roller often says she wants to be a conduit for good work, and she lives that truth. Whether she’s on set in Oklahoma and New York or supporting women in Africa to gain access to fresh water for their families. Bare Feet is a thirty-minute travel series that highlights traditional dance and music cultures from around the world. A professional dancer and trained musician, Mickela seamlessly weaves her two greatest passions travel and dance into a show that is as joyful as it is meaningful. Mickela has been my client for over 20 years, and I still remember the day she first told me about the idea for this show. I knew immediately it was going to be something special. Bare Feet is now a four-time Emmy Award winning series, which comes as no surprise because it truly is that good. The authenticity, joy, and passion Mickela brings to the screen are absolutely contagious. Her newest season shines a powerful light on global voices, Indigenous communities, and the deep human connections that dance creates across cultures. I truly believe dance is inherently Indigenous, which is why I love watching Mickela travel the world while uplifting our Indigenous relatives everywhere she goes.
