Hokum - Damian McCarthy continues to improve with each passing moment

Hokum is certainly one of the bold horror films that fearlessly explores various approaches to contemporary filmmaking. Although I'm not a huge fan of the folk horror genre, the movie managed to capture my attention throughout, setting two goals for the protagonist and their companions to achieve, creating a perfect equilibrium between them that keeps you intrigued about what lies ahead. The slow-burning pace and chilling atmosphere effectively reflect the folk tale being portrayed, skillfully engaging the audience without causing boredom. The soundtrack is excellent and fitting. I don't even need to mention the outstanding performances from the entire cast. Mortal Kombat II 2026 - Flawless Victory

However, Johnny Cage's inclusion felt like a poor choice, and while Karl Urban did an acceptable job, his age in Doom (2005) would have suited this role better than his current age. The games depict him as youthful, not aged!  I wasn't a fan of how Baraka was portrayed as friendly and cool with Johnny, considering he was an evil character in the original Midway games like MK: Deception, where he served Shang Tsung in MK9, adhering to the established lore. Kahn's character was strong, especially when he killed Cole Young, which was a misstep since introducing a brand new character was unnecessary. In this film, they severed the connection to Scorpion, who had the souvenir spear. They should have opted to make him Kenshi, Kai, or Takeda instead.

20 Years Later and Still the Queen - The Devil Wears Prada 2

Watching Miranda Priestly handle a landscape filled with HR issues and digital supremacy was both funny and brilliant. Meryl's 'boomer quips' such as 'Body Negative' were comedic treasures. The difference between the accommodating millennials, the Emilys, and the composed Gen Z assistant Amari, who confidently tells her boss 'you can't say that' really emphasizes the change in workplace dynamics. It gives the film a sense of real evolution instead of just a 'manufactured crisis.' Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are so immersed in their characters that you don't even notice the actresses, you simply inhabit their world. Meryl's performance is at a masterclass level here; she subtly reveals a hint of 'childlike giddiness' during the Hamptons scenes, which was both subtle and brilliant, even while she remained icy towards Andy. Lucy Liu was a fantastic addition as well. She didn't overshadow anyone, and her reveal as the 'mystery buyer' was a perfect 'mic-drop' moment.
