episode Whiskey Devil: A Short Story Audiobook by Christian Galacar cover

Whiskey Devil: A Short Story Audiobook by Christian Galacar

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Whiskey Devil: A Short Story Author: Christian Galacar Narrator: John York Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 1 min Language: English Release date: 01-04-18 Publisher: Christian Galacar Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes Genres: Fiction, Short Stories & Anthologies Publisher's Summary: Bobby Trask is a 12-year-old kid in a bad place. His father is an abusive drunk with muddled religious views, and his mother, as hard as she tries to defend her son, only ever ends up delaying the inevitable. Things take a turn for the worse one Friday when Bobby brings home a black eye from school. The following day his father brings him out into the woods on a mission to do "God's Work" and bring him into adulthood. A dark coming-of-age story about the sins of a father and a boy's chance to absolve himself from them. Members Reviews: Hard To Listen To I get this story and it's hard to imagine someone having to grow up in a situation like this but this story was hard to listen to. There was so much hate spewing from the father and I can't help but think it just carried down from his father before him. I couldn't stand to listen to the part about the dog. That was unbearable for me. John York did a fine job narrating. He was gritty as I suppose was the only way to portray the father's hate. Great read Whiskey Devil by Christian Galacar was a good quick read. Bobby is twelve years old and has to witness and few his fathers abusive ways. His mother continues to make excuses for his father. Things change when Bobby gets a black eye from school. This was a good quick read. Very satisfying!!! Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? Absolutely. It was well written and a great story. Who was your favorite character and why? The main character. The fact that he realized that he has learned from his mistake shows growth and growth in a fictional character is always good. What about John Yorks performance did you like? Great performance. His voice set the stage for the place and era in which the story took place. He was happy and morose at the times that the story called for it. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? It made me laugh because it was very satisfying. Any additional comments? I requested a review copy of this audio book and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

episode Behind the Lines Audiobook by Ian Patrick cover

Behind the Lines Audiobook by Ian Patrick

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Behind the Lines Author: Ian Patrick Narrator: Ian Patrick Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 59 mins Language: English Release date: 12-26-17 Publisher: Ian Patrick Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 5 votes Genres: Fiction, Short Stories & Anthologies Publisher's Summary: These eight short stories are works of fiction but reflect the author's real personal experiences while undergoing compulsory military training during his youth in apartheid South Africa. The stories are all based on real events but the characters are the products of creative imagination, however rooted in reality they might be. Listeners will enjoy a range of humour and unusual incidents - frequently hilarious - along with perceptive insights into the trials and tribulations faced by a young man seeking an identity in a confusing world of military discipline and rigid conformity. Members Reviews: A delightful collection Would you consider the audio edition of Behind the Lines to be better than the print version? Not sure. They are both great. I've just listened to the audiobook today. I read the kindle version some time ago. It certainly bears out a second reading. The stories are so clever and subtle and amusing. What was one of the most memorable moments of Behind the Lines? To tell the truth, the Afterword is amazing. What a fine piece of writing that is. The stories are all compelling, too, but when one reads that Afterword everything takes on even more poignancy and meaning. But all the stories were good. Maybe the best moment is when he takes the long journey through the night and gets an education from a sharp old market gardener as they drive down to Durban. What about Ian Patricks performance did you like? Very lucid and easy and cosy. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be? Bad soldier, good guy. Any additional comments? My father served in this same cohort of soldiers at the time this all takes place. He says it is completely accurate in every detail. He loved it, especially the audio version (he's read the book three or four times already and has just listened to the audio). These are good stories, well written Where does Behind the Lines rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far? Very good indeed. First rate. What other book might you compare Behind the Lines to and why? Lord of the Flies: about growing up and coming of age in trying circumstances. What about Ian Patricks performance did you like? Nice and easy narration, no fuss, just comfortable and clear. If you could rename Behind the Lines, what would you call it? Between the lines and behind the dialogue. Any additional comments? These short pieces are very good. I read the book then got the audio version and listened to the writer reading his own work. It was very good to hear him delve into the characters and the accents and feelings, etc. The experience of shutting ones eyes and just letting the stories unfold was a good one for me. I enjoyed most of all the scene in the guard tower with the young soldier wondering what he was doing there while at that very moment Neil Armstrong was stepping on the moon and Led Zeppelin were hammering out songs at a gig in the USA and the sounds of the Beatles and others were permeating the atmosphere. That was cool. These are good stories, well written. Delightful stories Would you consider the audio edition of Behind the Lines to be better than the print version? Not really: they are both good. The narrator brinbgs a nice intimacy to the stories because he seems to know them all so well. What was one of the most memorable moments of Behind the Lines? The "Blood Bond" story about the hew gorlfriend was lovely.

Sweetwater Springs Christmas Audiobook by Debra Holland and Friends

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Sweetwater Springs Christmas Author: Debra Holland and Friends Narrator: Lara Asmundson Format: Unabridged Length: 17 hrs and 14 mins Language: English Release date: 12-15-17 Publisher: Debra Holland Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 11 votes Genres: Fiction, Short Stories & Anthologies Publisher's Summary: Come celebrate the holidays in 1895 Sweetwater Springs, Montana, as 10 western romance authors join New York Times best-selling author Debra Holland in telling 14 short stories of love and laughter, heartbreak and healing, and most of all, Christmas joy. Members Reviews: Fantastic Stories! I so enjoyed hearing about my old friends in Sweetwater Springs. These short stories were just fantastic! I wish I could give a higher than five stars. Loved the narrator. Sweetwater Springs Christmas This collection is a wonderful addition to the Montana Sky Series but can also be enjoyed as a stand alone publication. Reading this annually, at Christmas, has become a tradition since it was first released as a kindle edition. This year I was thrilled to be able to enjoy the stories on audio-book while doing my Christmas preparations. The range of emotions the different stories evoked will help remind the reader/listener not to take our many blessings for granted. Holiday stories you will love Would you consider the audio edition of Sweetwater Springs Christmas to be better than the print version? Both the audible and paper version are longer than an average book. I enjoyed the audible because it was a series of stories rather than just one long story and could be listndto in stages without have no to remember the entire history. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be? Charity and benevolence in the old west. Any additional comments? Sweetwater Springs Christmas by Debra Holland and friends (anthology) Lots of emotion, holiday generosity and family love. Very sweet. Loved these stories. Many tears. I truly enjoyed all the stories but the ones by Debra Holland also filled in a couple of blanks from the series and made the anthology wonderful. Stories all center around the Christmas Eve Party at the new hotel in Sweetwater. The first and last by Debra Holland are tied together and include recurring characters and the joy of charity and benevolence. The last is also Bens change from hoodlum to grown up good guy. Its so sweet. I had missed this story of change and had wondered about it. And Ikes story: so moving. The Gift of Music by Debra Holland Sugarplum Dreams by Cynthia Woolf - a sweet shop opens by a single female. She and the carpenter helping her fall in love. Sweet and yah for female entrepreneurs. Mentions of the shop show up throughout the anthology. Wishes on a Star by Linda Carroll-Bradd A Christmas to Remember by Paty Jager A Best Present by Linda McLaughlin - a few tears with this one but we learn Widow Murphy does have a soft heart when given the right opportunity. The Christmas Crossing by Bev Pettersen - such determination, and responsibilities for a young woman. And they put her in jail! For her protection, of course. Lovely story. A Family for Ike by Debra Holland - so sad, so lovely. Family and connections. The joy of quiet and love of reading. A Christmas Far From Home by E. Ayers - the generosity of sharing, and the opposites of good people and bad. A Promise for Christmas by Tori Scott - a brother supports a widow and falls in love Sweetwater Springs Scrooge by Debra Holland ( inclusion in the audible version and the copy, not in the print version) - a Scrooge, second chance older couple romance.

episode Difficult Loves Audiobook by Italo Calvino cover

Difficult Loves Audiobook by Italo Calvino

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Difficult Loves Author: Italo Calvino Narrator: Edoardo Ballerini Format: Unabridged Length: 7 hrs and 42 mins Language: English Release date: 12-08-17 Publisher: Recorded Books Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Fiction, Short Stories & Anthologies Publisher's Summary: Intricate interior lives are brilliantly explored in these short stories, now presented in one definitive collection as Calvino intended them In Difficult Loves, Italy's master storyteller weaves tales in which cherished deceptions and illusions of love-including self-love-are swept away in magical instants of recognition. A soldier is reduced to quivering fear by the presence of a full-figured woman in his train compartment; a young clerk leaves a lady's bed at dawn; a young woman is isolated from bathers on a beach by the loss of her bikini bottom. Each of them discovers hidden truths beneath the surface of everyday life. Members Reviews: Beautiful This was just breath-takingly heart-breakingly brilliant and, at points, exactly what I was looking for. Calvino has such an incredible knack for describing personal thought and emotion... add to this a flurry of expertly chosen adjectives, and you find yourself taken away and immersed into the mind and body of the character on the page. This is what I needed. As with any collection of shorter works, there are high points and low points. At times I felt like this was a mediocre read. One that I was going to be glad to have read but not one that stuck with me. At times I felt like, in only a dozen or so pages, I had completely lost myself in a world that I didn't want to leave. I don't know if it was the type of stories being written or the simple fact that Calvino became a better writer over the course of the five years represented in this collection, but by the end I felt like *I* had grown into something different and better along with the stories I was reading. The first section of the book, Riviera Stories, slowly pulls you into the fantastical and meandering worlds in Calvino's mind. Many of these stories seem almost non-sensical and lack any real overt point to be made, but it's within these beautifully rendered slice-of-life stories that one finds meaning if you're willing to look. The author need not browbeat the reader with any sort of agenda as it is simply too easy to lose oneself within the web of words. I adored the non-ending endings of these stories and found that I had to put the book down with the conclusion of each mini-drama to let the feelings that were building up wash over me and away before I could jump into the next fantasy. This style became such an expectation throughout Riviera Stories and into the first 2 installments of Wartime Stories that the full ending of "Going to Headquarters" caught me completely off-guard and unprepared. I felt it coming, but I never expected to see it happen. Calvino then lulled me back into my dream world over the next several episodes... "The Crow Comes Last" was an incredible thriller that had me turning pages faster than anything up to that point but somehow still retained a feeling of unreality. "Animal Woods" then slowed everything down such that my dream state was nearly complete before being awoken by the iron hand grasping the nape of my neck at the end of "Mine Field." Again I found myself unprepared and requiring a moment to gather my thoughts. The farcical experiment of "A Theft in a Pastry Shop" was nearly as unexpected and carried well into "Dollars and the Demimondaine" until that story also broke my heart.

If you like ruthless assassins, fast-moving plots and Jack Reacher-style action, then you'll love USA Today best-selling author Mark Dawson's latest short. Members Reviews: Narrator performance was a real let down Please dont allow this narrator to read another book ever again ! After a wonderful ride though the entire collection to hear someone sound like they are high and half asleep just ruined it. If your gonna read books out loud make sure your good at it ! Hmmmm Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not? A nice prelude to Rose and Milton. However the readers voice was very droll and uninteresting and therefore made it a bit boring still a great story Could have been a tad longer with the coming together of Beatrix & John. I thought there could have been more to it. I still enjoyed reading it.
