Chloe, In Her Own Words

Hi there, young friends! My name is Chloe, and I want to tell you about something really important that happened in my house! I lived in the city of Corinth, and my whole household loved Jesus. We had heard the wonderful news about Him from the apostle Paul when he visited our city. Paul was like a spiritual father to all of us believers in Corinth! But then something sad started happening in our church. People began arguing and fighting with each other! Some people said, "I follow Paul!" Others said, "I follow Apollos!" And others said, "I follow Peter!" It was like having your friends pick teams and then fight about which team was better. This made Jesus very sad because He wants His people to love each other and work together! Here's where my story gets important for you kids: My household and I had to make a big decision. Should we tell Paul what was happening, or should we stay quiet? Some people might say, "Don't be a tattletale!" But we knew the difference between tattling and helping. Tattling is when you tell on someone just to get them in trouble or to make yourself look good. But telling the truth to help people is completely different! We weren't trying to get anyone in trouble - we were worried about our church family! We wanted everyone to stop fighting and love Jesus together again. So we sent word to Paul about what was happening. And you know what? Paul was so glad we told him! He wrote a letter (that's the book of 1 Corinthians in your Bible!) to help everyone remember that we're all on the same team - Jesus' team! Here's what I learned and want to share with you: - Sometimes grown-ups need to know when something is wrong so they can help fix it - There's a big difference between tattling to cause trouble and speaking up to help people - When people are being hurt or when something is really wrong, it's good to tell a trusted adult - We should always ask ourselves: "Am I telling this to help or to hurt?" The best part is that Paul used our report to write amazing words about love and working together that people still read today! Sometimes God uses us to help solve big problems by simply telling the truth to the right person. Remember: Be brave enough to speak up when someone needs help, but wise enough to know the difference between helping and tattling! Want to read more about me and my household?
