Hosts Michelle Chu and Jamil Ellis take you on an upbeat journey exploring the latest in media, culture and technology. Storytelling through music, film, television, and the internet has always had the power to connect us in new ways. Our goal is to talk about how these channels showcase our common humanity, setting our society up for a more positive, equitable future. We want our conversations to not only “get to the hook” but also shine a light on how we are bound through the media we consume and enjoy. We love talking about this stuff and wanted to share some positive energy in a crazy time.

We continue to discuss Chadwick Boseman’s work: his breakout performance in 42 as Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in Major League Baseball, and his portrayal of a young Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, as a prominent civil rights NAACP lawyer who eventually became the first African American justice on the Supreme Court. It’s clear from both these performances that Chadwick was destined for greatness (even if the scripts could use some work). And did you know about the connection between Chadwick Boseman, Marshall, and Kamala Harris?

We pay tribute to a creative force, Chadwick Boseman, as we mourn his untimely passing. Chadwick Boseman left this world too soon. Let us revel in the many gifts he gave us, starting with his performance in Black Panther, and how this film affected both of us personally in very different ways. This will be the first of multiple episodes where we shine a light on his impact and his legacy. Rest in power, Mr. Boseman. Wakanda forever. We analyze the impact of social media in June, when our feeds were packed with an intense mix of Black Lives Matter and COVID-19. We reflect upon that time months later, and provide tips on how to stay sane and positive, while getting bombarded with messages from everyone and everyone’s mother. Rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman. We miss you.

Let's eavesdrop and find out. While you're there, why don't you subscribe and listen to our first two episodes!

It’s Juneteenth, the day Michelle and Jamil question the “Black Lives Matter” messaging showing up on company websites, in emails, and on social media. Does getting Juneteenth off mean we will end systemic racism? Will all these messages lead to lasting change, or is it all just window dressing? Jamil’s dad, a retired federal judge and former civil rights lawyer, says to ask him in 60 days. So here we are, just about 60 days later. Plus, a quick primer on algorithms and how prisoner data influences the accuracy of facial recognition in algorithms today.
