Creating Psychologically Safe Learning Environments w/ Dr. Anna Neumeier

Anna Neumeier is an Associate Professor of Medicine within the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado. She is the Associate Program Director for the Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, the Associate Medical Director for the Medical ICU at Denver Health, and the Course Director for the Trek Basecamps in the School of Medicine. Her academic interests focus on curriculum design and the development of innovative pedagogical approaches to enhance learning at all levels of medical education. Supporting Clinician Educators w/ Dr. Trish Kritek

Trish Kritek is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Kritek completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston followed by her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Harvard Combined Training Program. She has an EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education.  Dr. Kritek is the Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs for the UW School of Medicine and the interim Chair of the Department of Medicine. In her role as vice dean, she focuses on helping the School of Medicine faculty thrive by bringing them a broad array of resources including those focused on career development, leadership skills, well-being and more. She leads the UW Medicine Rising Leaders program, a year-long leadership course for early to mid-career faculty. Dr. Kritek is an attending physician in multiple ICUs at the University of Washington Medical Center and is a clinician-educator with diverse teaching interests ranging from ventilator management and patient and family centered care to feedback and mentoring. Her scholarship focuses on feedback, interactive teaching strategies, and the career development of clinician educators. She has written extensively and spoken locally and nationally on these topics. Being Human in Medicine w/ Dr. Eva Aagaard

Eva Aagaard, MD, FACP is the Carol B and Jerome T Loeb Professor of Medical Education, Vice Chancellor for Medical Education, and Senior Associate Dean for Education at Washington University School of Medicine. A practicing general internist, in her current leadership role, she oversees medical education across the continuum including undergraduate (UME), graduate (GME) and continuing medical education as well as allied health professional and graduate training. This includes spearheading a large scale curriculum reform effort in the MD program, and promoting the development of multiple initiatives to promote the career development and success of educators on campus. Nationally she led development of the Society of General Internal Medicine TEACH Program. Internationally she developed the Health Education Advanced Leadership Program in Zimbabwe (HEALZ). Dr. Aagaard is a former member of the American Board of Internal Medicine Specialty Board, former Council Member for the Society of General Internal Medicine, and participates actively with the National Board of Medical Examiners as a reviewer for licensing exam content. She served as a core member of the Milestones in Internal Medicine Writing Committee and Milestones 2.0, leading to the Next Accreditation System at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Her areas of interest include curriculum reform, competency-based education and assessment, particularly as it relates to the UME to GME transition. She is passionate about mentoring, coaching and sponsorship and speaks widely on these topics. She has won more than 15 awards for clinical excellence, teaching, and humanism in medicine, including the University of Colorado’s President’s Teaching Award, the Society of General Internal Medicine Mid-Career Mentoring Award, and the Elizabeth Gee Award for the Advancement of Women. Parenting in Medical Training w/ Dr. Yaa Asare, Dr. Kira Grush, & Dr. Kyle McDaniel

In this episode we discuss the challenges and rewards of parenting during medical training with special guests Dr. Yaa Asare, Dr. Kira Grush, & Dr. Kyle McDaniel. Yaa Asare is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician (2024) who trained at the University of Colorado. She is currently a fellow in the University of Colorado Hospice and Palliative Medicine Program. Her professional goals are to practice both primary care and Palliative Medicine. She is a native of Ghana, though has lived in the Denver area for 20 years. She enjoys exploring spicy cuisines and taking long walks with her husband, daughter, and dog. Kira Grush, MD, MA (she/her/hers) is a Chief Medical Resident at the University of Colorado Internal Medicine Residency Program. She is originally from Boulder, Colorado and remains a “forever Coloradan,” having received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Colorado College and her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and MD from the University of Colorado. She comes to medicine after a career in K-12 education where she served as a middle school English teacher and, later, Dean of Students in the Cole neighborhood of Denver. She plans to pursue fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine with the long-term goal of developing curriculum around critical care and health equity. Outside of work, Kira spends her time with her husband, Kyle, who is a hospitalist at the University of Colorado Hospital, and their 16-month-old son, Nolan, who has quickly become their whole world. Together, they enjoy playing board games, traveling, watching the Rockies (lose), and spending time outside. Kyle McDaniel, MD, is a hospitalist and instructor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus, where he earned his MD and did internal medicine residency.
