episode ADHD In The Family, Featuring Sara Lerner cover

ADHD In The Family, Featuring Sara Lerner

Sara Lerner is a mom of 2. She’s also an ADHD coach who works in corporate communications, and she spent most of her career as an award-winning radio journalist. Sara also happens to be an ADHD-er herself! Sara spent 10 years at NPR station KUOW in Seattle, and she filed stories for many national outlets, including NPR, such as her story on bikini baristas or her insightful reporting on the Oso landslide in Washington State. She is passionate about things like press freedom and ethical journalism, and sat for years on the board of the Society of Professional Journalists. In today’s episode of Scattered and Spectacular, Sara talks with podcast host Andrea Morton about growing up with an ADHD parent, pursuing an education and career, marrying (and then divorcing) an ADHD spouse long before she ever discovered that she, too, has ADHD. Yet as her children were going through their own diagnoses, Sara realized how much ADHD had always been a part of her own journey. She is now a single parent working hard to support her family and continuing to uncover the myriad ways in which ADHD plays a role in almost every part of their life. Fueled by the desire to help other couples and individuals affected by ADHD, Sara created Truss Love, a professional practice where she offers ADHD and Relationships coaching. episode Your 'Too-Muchness' Is A Strength! Featuring Tracy Otsuka cover

Your 'Too-Muchness' Is A Strength! Featuring Tracy Otsuka

As Tracy Otsuka explains, ADHD is one of the most common neurological conditions in the United States, yet up to 75% of American women and girls who have it go undiagnosed. In fact, many of the adult women who DO receive a diagnosis later in life only manage to discover their own neurodiversity when one of their own children is identified at school and goes through the diagnosis process. ADHD manifests differently in women than in men (with qualities like inattention or rumination), and women with ADHD are often unrecognized or misunderstood, left to navigate alone in a world that doesn’t see or honor their unique talents and abilities. According to Tracy, these women may experience self-doubt: over-prepare, over-apologize, over-perform, or even monitor their own likability. They may experience emotions deeply and immediately, and have strong reactions to perceived criticism… replaying conversations long after they are over. (And much more!) Tracy herself recognized her own ADHD traits during her son’s diagnosis, and received her own ADHD diagnosis 8 months later. Since that time, she has devoted her career to coaching thousands of women, sharing important medical research, and creating an amazing resource for girls and women with ADHD, one of Amazon’s top 20 best non-fiction books of 2024, ADHD For Smart-Ass Women. She also hosts a top .1% podcast worldwide, also called “ADHD for Smart-Ass Women,” which receives over 150K downloads per month, is streamed in over 160 countries, and is globally ranked in the top .1% of podcasts. Tracy celebrates the ‘too-muchness’ of ADHD women as a strength. In today’s podcast, she’ll talk about the stories we tell ourselves, what it’s like to be a recovering perfectionist, and how to lean into the strengths of an unconventional brain. She also shares more about her ‘Your ADHD is A-OK!” program that helps women identify their strengths and harness their brilliance to live to their fullest potential.  To learn more about Tracy, you can visit her website here [https://tracyotsuka.com/aok], listen to her podcast here [https://tracyotsuka.com/podcast], or visit her on Instagram here [https://www.instagram.com/tracyotsuka/?hl=en].  *This episode is co-branded with The Infinite Capacity Podcast. Is This Perimenopause? A Woman's Midlife ADHD Journey

Kicking off the first-ever episode of Scattered and Spectacular, podcast host and Certified Life Coach Andrea Morton shares what happened when perimenopause descended (rudely!) on her body and life, wreaking minor havoc and revealing the combined-type ADHD that she'd unknowingly been coping with all her life!
