What’s it like to be a young carer in the UK? Where are change and support found right now - and how can we make a fairer future? In these intimate and urgent conversations, young carers and change makers meet to reflect on the challenges facing young carers today - from education to work, social life to bank balances. They reflect on what needs to change, but also where positive action is already being found - and what we can all do, today, to support the young carers in our lives. After all, with as many as 1 million young people in the UK with caring responsibilities - that’s between 2 and 3 in each classroom - supporting young carers should be everyone’s business. ‘Sharing the Mic’ puts young carers centre stage and presents an evidence-based call to action. Created in partnership with the Carers Trust, this podcast is rooted in the ground-breaking research project ‘The long-term effects of being a young carer’, conducted by Dr. Becca Lacey and her team at City St George’s, University of London, and UCL - and funded by the Nuffield Foundation. This is a Research Podcasts production. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
