episode Permission to Break the Rules cover

Permission to Break the Rules

Hey friend— Whether you're navigating chronic illness, burnout, heartbreak, or just a life that keeps throwing curveballs—some of the so-called “rules” we’ve been handed about how to live, work, and be are downright unhelpful. In this episode of The Art of Resilience Podcast, we’re tearing a few of those up. This is a powerful and much-needed topic—exploring how living with a chronic illness often requires breaking unspoken rules and expectations in order to reclaim agency, identity, and joy. From toxic productivity myths to workplace cultures that reward burnout, I share the invisible scripts I had to unlearn to start actually thriving—not just surviving. We’ll talk about how to exit environments (and relationships) that suck the life out of you, how to not be everyone’s always-positive, always-available friend, and why real boundaries aren’t about avoidance—they’re about repair. These rules and standards aren't designed for bodies in pain, fluctuating energy levels, or the unpredictability of chronic symptoms. * “Pushing through” can lead to flares or massive setbacks * Rest isn’t optional—it’s survival * Traditional measures of success often become irrelevant * Masking your pain for others’ comfort erodes authenticity Let me tell you a secret and smash this lie. Many times, these rules aren’t even made for any person! Breaking the rules isn’t rebellion—it’s wisdom. Oh—and if you’ve ever spiraled into Netflix-and-scroll territory and called it “rest”… to mitigate the blues often brought on by pain, fatigue, or symptoms—we’re going there too (with zero shame). These “self-care” pop culture scripts can often feel blurry and lead us into inaction and paralysis. Let’s rewrite the rules and give ourselves permission to heal differently. With grit and grace,Jaasiel 💛 Thanks for reading The Art of Resilience Podcast! This post is public so feel free to share it. episode When was the last time you fully enjoyed a meal?🧐 cover

When was the last time you fully enjoyed a meal?🧐

Happy Friday! Meals aren’t just another item on your to-do list—they’re a privilege and a joy. Some foods have the power to trigger the best memories (science agrees!), which makes eating a meaningful way to build resilience. So here’s your friendly reminder: meals can actually help regulate your nervous system and support your stress response throughout the day. And hey—while you're at it, toss in some colorful, nutrient-dense goodness (wink wink). If you have a chronic illness… Eating can be relegated to either something we have to do and we have lost pleasure in savoring our meals all together. This is normal but it doesn’t have to be. Recovering this joy is a very powerful tool to shift the course of our physical and our mental health. Maybe you’re living with a chronic illness that makes it tough to enjoy meals like “normal” folks do—and I see you. Working with a nutritionist to identify foods that won’t trigger pain, discomfort, or flares can make a big difference. That’s why I’m sharing this amazing evidence-based resource [https://youtu.be/Z61921PImhc?si=WsdowvExY-ydV2_6] to help support and empower your healing journey. 💛 P.S. Did you know that if you download the Substack app, you’ll unlock access to chats and extra podcast goodies? Just sayin’. 👀 If this topic interested you… Here’s an amazing video I used back in my teaching days during the nutrition module. It’s not just about being mindful with your food—it’s a powerful tool to help us recognize the deeper dysfunctions and habits that often show up at the table. 🍽️ Worth a watch if you're ready to shift the way you think about eating. Matthew 6:14-15 21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. 23 “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.[g [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2018&version=ESV#fen-ESV-23748g]] 24 When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.[h [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2018&version=ESV#fen-ESV-23749h]] 25 And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 So the servant[i [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2018&version=ESV#fen-ESV-23751i]] fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 27 And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. 28 But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii,[j [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2018&version=ESV#fen-ESV-23753j]] and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ 30 He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. 31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. 32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers,[k [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2018&version=ESV#fen-ESV-23759k]] until he should pay all his debt. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.” Matthew 18: 21-35 On the vengeance of the God It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip;their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.” Deuteronomy 32:35 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. Flare Me Out: Mindset Shift to Richness

Yup, I obviously recorded this 18 days plus ago but this one has serious encouragement for your journey. 🚨IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: The Flare Me Out Series may occasionally be brought to you by… me with a sprinkle doctor-approved pain meds. If I sound a little mumbly or offbeat, now you know why. Just to be clear—I don’t mess with illegal substances or misuse medication. Seriously, don’t do that. Always talk to your pain management physician about what’s right for you. Pain meds aren’t meant to be your daily bread—there’s a whole buffet of support out there! This series isn’t here to diagnose, treat, or cure anything. I’m just a fellow chronic illness warrior with a science brain and a big heart, sharing raw moments to help you thrive—not just survive. Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
