2023 Graduation Ceremony Occasional Address: Prof Tracey Rowland

On Wednesday the 13th of December, Campion College was delighted to welcome Professor Tracey Rowland as the occasional speaker for our 2023 Graduation Ceremony. Tracey Rowland is an Australian Roman Catholic theologian and professor at the University of Notre Dame Australia. She was appointed to Pope Francis’ International Theological Commission in 2014 and in 2020 became the first Australian, and third woman, to be awarded the Ratzinger Prize for theology. Academic Centre Grand Opening Keynote Address: Hon John Anderson AC

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the keynote address, delivered by former Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon John Anderson AC. 2023 St Edmund Campion Lecture: Professor Emeritus John Carroll

On Thursday the 22nd of June, Campion College was delighted to welcome Professor Emeritus John Carroll as the guest speaker for our 2023 St Edmund Campion Lecture. John Carroll is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia; and a Senior Fellow at the Center for Cultural Sociology, Yale University. His work focuses on culture, and its crucial role in the human search for meaning, with particular refer- ence to the modern Western society. His books include The Western Dreaming, Terror—a Meditation on the Meaning of September 11, The Wreck of Western Culture— Humanism Revisited, The Existential Jesus, and Ego and Soul—the Modern West in Search of Meaning. In his address, Professor Carroll explored the central themes of his latest book, The Saviour Syndrome, which delves into the sociological and psychological rationale behind idolisation and seeking messianic figures in post-Christian societies. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Formal Hall Address: Gray Connolly

On Thursday the 25th of May, Campion College was delighted to welcome Gray Connolly as the guest speaker at Formal Hall. Graham Alfred Frederick (Gray) Connolly is a barrister and writer in Sydney. He also lectures in Australian constitutional law at Sydney University, is the examiner in constitutional law for the Legal Profession Admission Board and serves part-time as a Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He has served previously as a Naval Intelligence officer in the Royal Australian Navy. In his Formal Hall address, Mr Connolly provided a brief history of the Australian Constitution and shared a balanced account of the implications that may arise from constitutional amendments such as the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament and the Executive Government of the Commonwealth of Australia. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
