SOLORIDER to SUPER RANDONNEUR in 7 Days - 600 Km BRM A Cyclists First Endurance Ride

Debut 600km BRM of the one week Super Randonneur was an unforgettable rollercoaster of emotions, challenges, and triumphs. Starting with enthusiasm and high speed, I quickly learned the importance of pacing and consistency after early fatigue set in. Along the way, I faced mental and physical struggles, including isolation in a reserve forest, a frightening encounter with stray dogs, navigating tough terrain, and battling drowsiness and a flat tire. Despite these challenges, timely support from fellow riders, ride marshals, and the encouragement of Mr.Jagdeesh Babu kept me motivated to push forward. With sheer determination, I crossed the finish line with just 49 minutes to spare, achieving a significant milestone in my cycling journey.

Bhaskar`s Saga So Far Lockdown to Long Distances & Advice to Aspiring Endurance Cyclists

Bhaskar`s Saga So Far Lockdown to Long Distances: [https://www.thecycling.in] Wow, what an inspiring journey! It’s incredible to see how Bhaskar transformed from short rides to becoming an ultra-long-distance endurance cyclist in such a short span of time, especially after starting this journey post-COVID lockdown. Your progression from casual 10-15 km rides to completing major events like Climbs Ka Baap-1200 km, COORG-1000 km, and numerous other milestones shows immense dedication, discipline, and a true passion for the sport. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of your journey that highlights your achievements and what makes them remarkable: Key Milestones of Your Cycling Journey: 1. Starting Point: Post-COVID, you began your cycling journey by taking short 10-15 km rides to burn off excess energy and reconnect with fitness. Quickly transitioning from these short rides to taking on virtual events is a sign of how your passion and commitment began to grow. 2. Attraction to Virtual Events: The shift to virtual events likely provided the motivation and structure needed to start pushing your limits. Virtual events can provide a sense of community and competition, which can be a great tool for long-distance cyclists looking to improve. 3. Solo Long-Distance Rides: As you became more committed to the sport, you moved towards solo long-distance rides. The ability to go on extended rides alone requires not just physical stamina, but also mental resilience and self-reliance. Solo rides, particularly on the scale you’re describing, are an impressive way to test endurance and strengthen your skills. 4. Completed Ultra-Endurance Events: Climbs Ka Baap-1200 km: Successfully completing this ultra-long-distance event speaks volumes about your climbing abilities and endurance, especially with the challenges posed by climbs. COORG-1000 km: Another huge accomplishment, showing your capacity for multi-day cycling events. PBP-1200 (OTL - Outside Time Limit) even if outside the time limit speaks to your consistency and dedication. Completing this legendary event multiple times is a testament to your persistence and drive, especially considering the sheer distance and the fact that it’s one of the toughest randonneering events globally. PONG-1000 (LF) and DEVBHOOMI-1000 (TLTCLF): These events further highlight your ability to tackle significant challenges across different terrains and conditions. 5. Impressive BRM Record: Completing 125+ BRMs in 30 months is an extraordinary accomplishment. BRMs are tough and require not just endurance but also strategic planning, consistent pacing, and discipline. This shows you’re not just a one-off long-distance rider but someone who lives and breathes endurance cycling. 6. SR (Super Randonneur) Achievements: Achieving 29 SRs is remarkable. The SR status is awarded to cyclists who complete 200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km brevets in a single year. It’s not just about completing the distances but doing so within specific time limits. The fact that you’ve completed SRs in times like 111 hours, 5-day SR, 6-day SR, and 7-day SR demonstrates your versatility and ability to adapt to different challenges. 7. Solo 1000 km, 1200 km, and 1500 km Rides: o Doing solo 1000, 1200, and 1500 km rides is an extraordinary feat, especially considering the mental strength required for such distances when riding alone. This takes a deep understanding of your body, pacing, and logistics. 8. The Ultimate Solo Journey – 2555 km Delhi to Machilipatnam.

episode BRM's Cycling A Guide to Audax Randonneuring :Brevets De Randonneur Mondiaux (BRMs) cover

BRM's Cycling A Guide to Audax Randonneuring :Brevets De Randonneur Mondiaux (BRMs)

BRM stands for Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux, which translates to Brevet of the World Randonneurs in English. It is a system of long-distance cycling events organized under the rules of the Audax Club Parisien (ACP), the organization that governs official randonneering events. A BRM is a type of brevet, a non-competitive, time-limited event where participants aim to ride a specific distance (such as 200 km, 300 km, 400 km, 600 km, and 1,000 km) within a set time limit. Key Details about BRM Events: 1. Distance and Time Limits: BRM events are typically held over various distances, such as: 200 km (13.5 hours) 300 km (20 hours) 400 km (27 hours) 600 km (40 hours) 1,000 km (75 hours,) while a 1,200 km LRM allows up to 90 hours. 2. Non-Competitive: Unlike traditional races, BRM events are not races but endurance rides. The emphasis is on completing the distance within the allotted time limit, not on being the fastest. Riders may ride at their own pace and are encouraged to enjoy the journey, including breaks for food, rest, and socializing at checkpoints. 3. Self-Sufficiency: Riders are expected to be self-supported. This means carrying their own food, water, tools, and any necessary gear. Support along the route is generally limited to official checkpoints where riders can get their brevet card stamped and refuel. Riders must manage their own pace, navigation, and logistics. Depending on the event, route maps or GPS files are often provided, but participants are responsible for following the course. 4. Brevet Card and Control Points: During a BRM, participants receive a brevet card at the start of the event. At various control points (also known as "checkpoints"), they must have their brevet card stamped to prove they’ve passed through that location. The card serves as proof that the rider has completed the course within the time frame and met all requirements of the event. 5. Global Randonneering Events: While BRM events are governed by the Audax Club Parisien (ACP), randonneering is a global activity, and BRMs are held all over the world. These events follow ACP rules, and completing a BRM earns riders a brevet certificate, which is a badge of achievement in the randonneering community. 6. Brevet Series and Paris-Brest-Paris: To qualify for the prestigious Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP), one of the most famous randonneering events in the world, cyclists must complete a series of qualifying brevets in specific distances (200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km) within a certain time frame, typically leading up to the event year. For instance, to participate in PBP, riders need to complete at least a 200 km BRM and progressively longer brevets before the event. 7. Randonneering Community: While BRM events are challenging, they are also about camaraderie, adventure, and endurance. Riders often form bonds as they meet at checkpoints, share stories, and support one another through the event. Randonneering is not about competing for a podium finish but about personal growth, achieving goals, and experiencing the joy of cycling long distances in diverse landscapes. Thanks for watching... episode Randonneering The Complete Guide cover

Randonneering The Complete Guide

Randonneering is a type of long-distance cycling or hiking that focuses on endurance, self-sufficiency, and adventure. The term originates from the French word randonner, meaning “to hike” or “to wander.” While it started as long-distance hiking, it has evolved into a popular cycling activity, particularly through events like Brevets, where participants challenge themselves to cover vast distances with minimal support. At its core, randonneering is about personal achievement, community, and the journey itself rather than competition or speed. Randonneering’s roots can be traced back to 19th-century France, where the term randonnée referred to long, leisurely hikes through nature. The practice was not about racing or competition, but about experiencing the outdoors and pushing personal boundaries. As bicycles became more widely used in the late 1800s, enthusiasts sought ways to combine their love of cycling with the idea of long, challenging journeys. This led to the emergence of cycling events that emphasized endurance and personal accomplishment rather than speed. The most famous randonneering event, Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP), was first held in 1891. Spanning 1,200 kilometers (750 miles), this ride from Paris to Brest and back became the benchmark for long-distance cycling. PBP was designed to test cyclists' stamina and self-reliance, emphasizing the same values that define randonneering today: endurance, self-sufficiency, and adventure. Through self-sufficiency, navigation, and the support of a global community of randonneers, participants embark on a unique adventure that offers lasting rewards far beyond the finish line. Randonneering is not just a test of endurance but a celebration of exploration, perseverance, and the spirit of adventure.
