episode A Chat With Jill Sobule cover

A Chat With Jill Sobule

I just discovered an interview I conducted three decades ago with a refreshing, gifted and delightful artist that was gaining traction in the pop rock music scene. I caught up with Jill Sobule at a Detroit area record store. Her ground breaking hit at the time was called ‘I Kissed A Girl.’ She tragically passed away earlier this year at the age of 66. Take a moment to not only listen to the interview and three song mini set,  but read the following words from GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “Jill Sobule wasn’t just a trailblazer in music-she was a beacon for queer artists.  Jill was writing and singing about sexuality and identity with raw honesty and wit.  Her courage helped pave the way for todays artists (Brandi Caroline, Adam Lambert, Sam Smith and many others.  Jill was a rare light-funny, fearless and full of heart. Her impact will live on through her art and through everyone she inspired.”

episode Episode 004:My College Radio Days cover

Episode 004:My College Radio Days

My radio career began in college at Western Michigan University [https://wmich.edu/] in Kalamazoo Michigan.  I eventually worked my way up the ranks to become the first female General Manager at the student run WIDR-FM [https://www.widrfm.org/].  I was trained by the best, John Dunn.  I was his assistant the year prior to becoming WIDR’s GM.  I dedicate this podcast to John. Being part of WIDR-FM was much like being in a fraternity. There are many of us that have remained friends and associates over the years.  We have held large scale reunions and smaller gatherings as well. Last spring, a handful of my college radio pals got together for pizza and beer at one of our favorite hang-outs.  The micro reunion consisted of Kris Dalton Liebold aka ‘KD’, Jim McKinney aka 'Papa', Tim Murphy, aka ‘Murph’, Ed Sackley, Bob Piellusch, Larry McClish, aka ‘Larry Mac’ and myself Kim Zewatsky Brixton, aka, ‘Beez’. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D79ogLcSDC4] I just so happened to have a recording device, so I took advantage of the opportunity to have everyone in attendance talk about their WIDR experience, and life in general. Thank you in advance for listening. And, I apologize for some 'salty' language that may have slipped through the editing process.

Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
Bra app. Oversiktlig og ryddig. MYE bra innhold⭐️⭐️⭐️
