In the years preceding 1992, Mike Battagila had no notion of any health problems. He was an active man - a high school wrestler and college football player - labouring in construction for the family business. Then one day, whilst shovelling clay out of a basement his back froze. His dad rushed him to the ER, where an X-Ray showed that he had no cartilage in his hips... The subsequent tests proved that Mike had a degenerative joint disease. What followed were 25 years of daily chronic pain, literal sleepless nights, countless doctors visits, surgeries and over 300k in hospital bills. Then four years ago, Mike had another problem. His muscles started wasting at an alarming rate, his CPK shot up to 1758 (almost 10 times the maximum threshold) and his muscles started retracting. Amongst countless visits to the top specialists, including neurologists from Wayne State University, Mike Battagila found Big Mike. Since working together, his liver enzymes are back to normal and CPK is dropping fast. This interview covers Mike's heart wrenching story as well as his work with Big Mike to treat the untreatable.
