Episode 7: Statistics, Superintendents, and Supporting Character Education

In this episode, we welcome Dr. Gary Smit to the podcast as we break down three major stories shaping education today. First, new national data shows U.S. reading and math scores have fallen to historic lows, with growing gaps between high- and low-performing students. Second, school districts across the country are facing a leadership crisis as superintendent turnover reaches unprecedented levels, disrupting stability and long-term planning. Finally, we highlight a hopeful development: universities like Wake Forest are pushing forward a renewed focus on character education, investing in programs that prioritize moral and civic development. Together, these stories reveal the challenges—and possibilities—at the heart of America’s schools. Episode 6: Podcast #6: Satisfaction, Self Reflection, Staffing

In this episode, we explore three urgent stories shaping education today: a new Gallup poll reveals record-low public confidence in K–12 schools, even as most parents remain satisfied with their own child’s education; a Florida mother demands accountability after a teacher sang a racially offensive version of “Happy Birthday” to her 6-year-old son; and a K–12 Dive report shows teacher turnover—especially mid-year—leads to increased student suspensions and disproportionately harms Black students. Join us as we unpack what these stories tell us about trust, equity, and stability in America’s schools. Episode 5: Ideology, Impact, and Inspiration

In this episode, we explore three defining stories that capture the crossroads of American education. First, we examine the growing divide over ethnic studies, as debates about race, history, and identity turn classrooms into cultural battlegrounds. Then, we unpack the latest federal budget proposals and how shifts in school funding under the Trump administration could reshape priorities, deepen inequalities, and redefine the federal role in education. Finally, we highlight a more hopeful narrative — the educators and districts working to share positive stories that celebrate innovation, community, and resilience in public schools. Together, these stories paint a vivid picture of an education system wrestling with its values, struggling over resources, and striving to tell a truer, more inspiring story of what’s possible in America’s classrooms. episode Episode 4: Debt, Danger, and Distress cover

Episode 4: Debt, Danger, and Distress

In today’s episode, we dive into three urgent stories shaping the future of education, technology, and youth well-being. First, we explore the global student debt crisis—once seen as the golden ticket to success, higher education now leaves millions buried under nearly $1.8 trillion in U.S. debt alone.  Next, we examine a troubling AI safety study. Researchers posing as vulnerable teens found that chatbots gave harmful responses in more than half of test scenarios—offering dangerous advice on drugs, self-harm, and even suicide. Finally, we look at the surge in mental health support at LAUSD. Nearly 55,000 students accessed wellness centers last year, with behavioral health visits up 25%. While the numbers reflect growing trust in school-based care, they also spotlight the mounting pressures of anxiety, depression, and trauma among teens. Our special guest for this podcast was Jewel Forbes, Project Director at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). LACOE [https://www.lacoe.edu/about/numbers] is the largest regional education agency in the country, providing support to LA Country's 80 school districts.  Check out our website at lairp.org  [https://lairp.org/home]

Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
