Dr. Vartika Nanda is India's renowed prison reformer and founder of Tinka Tinka Foundation that aims to bring positive change in prisons. Her three books on prison reforms are authentic version of life in jails. She was conferred Stree Shakti Puraskar by the President of India in 2014 and has been included twice in the Limca Book of Records. A former journalist, she now heads the Department of Journalism in Lady Shri Ram College, DU. This podcast series is edited by Harsh Vardhan. Vartika Nanda is also the storyteller and narrator of Kissa Khaki Ka, the podcast series of Delhi Police.

This was the 7th year of celebration of exclusive awards for inmates and staff. There were 3 categories this year, namely Painting, Special Mention and Prison Administration. 7 inmates were chosen for awards in the Painting category while 2 were selected for their special contribution to prison life. 2 awards were given to prison staff. This year the theme for awards was Telephones in Jails. Awards this year were released by Shri Arvind Kumar (IPS), DG, Madhya Pradesh Prisons & Correctional Services and Dr. KLN Rao. ADG Prisons, Gujarat. Jury this year comprised Sudhir Yadav, IPS (Retd.) and former DG, Delhi Prisons, Arun Kumar Gupta, IPS (Retd.), former DG, West Bengal Prisons and Dr. Vartika Nanda, Founder, Tinka Tinka Foundation. An elaborate award ceremony took place at Central Jail, Bhopal. Tinka Tinka India Awards and Tinka Tinka Bandini Awards are exclusive awards founded by India’s prison reformer Vartika Nanda.Conceived, scripted and narrated by prison reformer Dr. Vartika Nanda on an honorary basis, Tinka Tinka Jail Radio is the first and exclusive podcast series on prison reforms in India. Starting in 2020, these episodes have till now covered various shades and contours of life in Indian and international jails. From discussing the struggles of children who live in the prison with their incarcerated parent in the first episode, to detailing and sharing both emotional and successful stories of Tinka Jail Radio established in jails, these exclusive podcasts have come a long way in introducing the outside world to the jail environment. This is a sincere attempt to help in improving living conditions in jails. Vartika Nanda is also the storyteller and narrator of Kissa Khaki Ka, the podcast series of Delhi Police. Kissa Khaki Ka is the only podcast series run by any police department in India.

#vartikananda #jailradio #tinkatinkafoundation Satish and Arbaz- two inmates lodged in District Jail, Agra came together to paint the Tinka Jail Radio wall. Colors in their hands also made a substantial improvement in their mental health. One of them had tried committing suicide a few days back. While number of deaths in prisons has increased from 1,887 in 2020 to 2,116 in 2021, having increased by 12.1%., art and creativity in prisons can bring a huge change in the prison atmosphere. Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day: this special episode is dedicated to all prison officers, staff and inmates who are trying to recreate in prisons. Interestingly, this was the first jail radio started by Tinka Tinka Foundation. It moved further in other jails . Agra Jail Radio was part of a special action-oriented work that was evaluated as OUTSTADING by ICSSR. Thanks to Shri Anand Kumar, Shri Shashi Kant Mishra , Shri Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, Shri K.P. Singh, Shri Jeevan Singh and Shri Harvansh Pandey for their constant support. Tinka Tinka India Awards entered into its 6th year of celebration of creativity in jails. There were 3 categories this year: Painting, Special Mention and Prison Administration. 7 inmates received awards in the Painting category while 6 were chosen for their special contribution to prison life. 4 awards were given to prison staff, including one given posthumously. Jury this year included Shri Ajay Kashyap (IPS), Shri OP Singh (IPS) and Dr. Vartika Nanda, Founder, Tinka Tinka Foundation. This year Chief Guests of this ceremony were Shri K. Selvaraj (IPS) DG, Haryana Prisons, Shri Ajay Kashyap (IPS) Former DG, Tihar Prisons and Shri Anand Kumar DGP and IG Prisons, Uttar Pradesh. The awards were released in District Jail, Faridabad this year. Dr. Vartika Nanda, prison reformer and media educatorhas conceptualised these exclusive awards for inmates and jail staff. Every year jail awards are dedicated to a specified topic concerning prisons. Vartika Nanda has also conceived jail radio in the prisons of Haryana and District Jail. Tinka Tinka Jail Radio: Ep 44: Celebrating Rakhi through Tinka Jail Radio: वर्तिका नन्दा
Aug 12, 2022: Prison radio started at a usual time today, 7 am , but with unusual demands. More than 300 letters of requests were received today by inmates to listen to programmes, stories and songs of their choice. Interestingly, prison radio exceeded its time slot of 3 hours to 8 hours today, looking at the enthusiasm of inmates. They wanted to celebrate through the jail radio and wanted their family members too to listen to the few voices sitting at the other corner of the jail. District Jail, Karnal in Haryana, which started its prison radio on 29 April, 2021, was a major hit today. Ten inmates, including five women, have been trained as radio jockeys to run the daily programme. Dr. Vartika Nanda, Founder of Tinka Tinka Foundation, is the brain behind prison radios in the state of Haryana. First jail radio of Haryana was inaugurated in District Jail, Panipat by Ranjit Singh (Jail Minister), Rajiv Arora IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Jail) and K. Selvaraj, (IPS), DG Prisons, Haryana in January 2021.
