133 EpisoderHello there dear listeners! Welcome back to another episode of Trophy Talk! This is our second show for the month of Spooktober, a favorite among our community, and as such it felt right to welcome to the show Gary Cooper. Gary was one of our first ever listeners and community members and is all around just a great guy. We're happy to be joined by him, and Darryl again (yay!) for this episode discussing what we've been playing during the month of October! Before we can get into the meat and potatoes though, there's rage god offerings, platinum shout outs, and Patron submitted questions to discuss of course! What are our new favorite horror movies or franchises? Would the four of us make a good team if we had to pull of heists or other covert operations together? What's the scariest place we've ever been stuck or stranded? Well the answers to all these questions, plus a ton of others, are just behind the play button. Thank you so much for your support, and for listening!
Warmest of Welcomes Everybody. This month on DLC Pack, Max is joined by fellow discord member ZacLre to talk about the Final Fantasy series as a whole. With questions from the audience taking the wheel and steering the show to its destination, we cover our favourite and least favourite games in the series and our thoughts on the evolution of combat systems. Have you ever wondered 'how in great greagors gash am I supposed to get into this series?!' Well we covered that too with our own beginners guide for getting into the series and finally we talk about what Square Enix has planned for the future of the series. We know we can expect the final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy in 2028 but what does the silent Square Enix have cooking in the meantime? When can we expect Final Fantasy 17? Is Final Fantasy 9 Remake cancelled? What will become of the 20+ year old MMO Final Fantasy 11 in its life support stage? To warm up we also took some time to talk about some of the games we've been playing and had some short thoughts on the previous DLC Pack episode following the September State of Play. We hope you enjoy this one and I'll see you next month for episode 5. Peace! Max [Pre-recorded 5th October 2024]
Hello there dear listeners! Welcome back to another episode of Trophy Talk, and our first episode in October, aka Spooky Season! This is a favorite time of year for many of us in the community as it marks a time when we get to engage with horror media to a greater degree than normal. The nights are getting longer and the weather colder (except in California apparently), meaning it's time to cozy up with a good scary game and earn some trophies. As such, we felt it appropriate to review the trophy list for Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake, coming out on October 9th. While initially many were skeptical of the game due to its first trailers and gameplay reveals, recent days have seen glowing review scores start to pour in for Silent Hill 2. After seeing these reviews and looking at this trophy list, it is admittedly hard not to get excited. The trophy hunt appears to be faithful to the original list from the HD version of Silent Hill 2 on PS3, while also getting rid of some elements of the original list that made it incredibly frustrating. Don't get us wrong, this list will likely be relatively tough, but that balance appears to be right and there's a speedrun trophy wahoo! With Surviving the Horror this month covering Silent Hill 2, this won't be the last you hear of the game in the coming weeks. That's not all we have in store for this episode though. Community member and long time listener ZacLre has created a fantastic spreadsheet of statistics from our Discord members and we're excited to share some of those findings with you all. Have you ever wondered just what the most platinumed game is among the community or who has the most platinum trophies in Call of Duty and Final Fantasy? Well we're here to tell you the answers to those questions, as well as many more fun facts about our communities cumulative trophies. ZacLre's spreadsheet is a fantastic resource for our community and we're very appreciative of his efforts in making it. Surrounding both of the aforementioned larger discussions, are plat shout outs, our favorite trophy earned in the last week, and a slew of Patreon questions for us to dig into. So sit down, grab a soda (and for Cthulhu's sake some ice), and enjoy the show.
On June 18th 2024, British game developer The Chinese Room released a horror game that hoped to combine elements of John Carpenter's "The Thing" with motifs found in movies like "Midsommar", and The Lighthouse. That's a pretty bold and ambitious plan to say the least! That game was Still Wakes the Deep. Described as a first person psychological horror game, Still Wakes the Deep sees the player take on the role of Caz McCleary an electrician aboard the Beira D oil rig in the North Sea in the year 1975. Haunted by decisions in his past, including a more recent violent altercation, and the loss of trust from his wife and partner Suze, Caz must navigate a crumbling infrastructure aboard the oil rig, a slew of electrical issues, and the cosmic horrors of the unknown on his journey back to his home and family. In a game filled with a cast of wonderfully realized characters, superb voice acting, and heavy themes, it is perhaps the lack of real mechanical depth in the game that leaves the most room to be desired. This is a game that asks many intriguing questions about psychology, grief, and body horror, it's just a shame that the ways it gives you in gameplay to explore those themes is surface level. All in all though, Josh and Colin had a wonderful time playing this game. It doesn't overstay its welcome, and respects your time. If you're looking for a game to play during the upcoming Spooky season that can accompany a longer game, this may be the one for you! Coming up next month on Surviving the Horror, Colin and Josh will be sinking their teeth into the newly released Silent Hill 2 Remake. We hope you'll join us then, and thank you for listening!
Hello hello dear listener, and welcome back to another exciting episode of Trophy Talk! In this episode Josh and Colin sit down to talk about what games they've been playing for the past few weeks, and let me tell you it's been quite productive for them both. As with most of the PlayStation community, much of the last two week period has been dominated by the release of Astro Bot, from Team Asobi. First revealed in late Spring of 2024 and releasing on September 9th worldwide, Astro Bot serves as a celebration of the past, present, and future of PlayStation. With delightful level design, rock solid platforming, and a slew of easter eggs and references, it's easy to see how Astro Bot has captured the hearts and imaginations of gamers in the PlayStation eco system. But how was it from a trophy hunting perspective? Well, in short, pretty damn awesome. Josh and Colin spend a good deal of time discussing this potential GoTY candidate and the experience of earning the Platinum. From there the two move on to talk about another surprise game this year in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. While neither Josh or Colin know too much about the 40K universe, that doesn't really matter. Space Marine 2 is an example of the way games used to be made, with a campaign, PvE, and PvP modes on launch that all function and respect your time. The game is a blast, and well worth your consideration! Other topics in the show of course include Patreon submitted questions where we talk about our favorite traversal mechanics, a dead IP we'd like brought back, and a game mechanic we wish wasn't a thing in games. Additionally, we give a brief update on the TTP Survivor challenge in our Discord, say our favorite single trophy earned over the last two weeks, and shout out the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and Lollipop Chainsaw Repop releases. With Silent Hill 2 remake right around the corner as well, it's a good time to be a horror and horror media fan, that's for sure! Thanks so much for listening, and enjoy! =)
