EP71. Is It Me or Is It Germany? Dating While Black, Beauty Brands That Don't See Us & More

Take five. Don't ask. After a heavy one last week, we needed something lighter, so this episode we're going back to your two favourite topics: dating and friendships. But first, hot takes. Mariam kicks things off with a real one: it's 2026 and beauty brands in Germany still can't make a sunscreen that doesn't leave your kid looking like Casper. We're talking foundations you have to drive to Düsseldorf to find, L'Oreal shades that exist everywhere except apparently Germany, and brands like Catrice that had the vision but not the execution. Shoutout to Sephora for at least keeping it real. Rufaro revisits the great dress debate of 2015. You know the one. And yes, it was always blue and black. We don't take questions. Then we get into it — Germany might genuinely be one of the worst places in the world to try and date. Rufaro explains why it's not even about Germans specifically. It's the culture. It's contagious. We're all Germanized at this point. We also read a story from a Black African woman dating in Germany who's starting to wonder: am I getting ghosted because of who I am, or is this just how it is here? It's an honest, uncomfortable conversation and we don't pretend to have all the answers. Think you can top Germany with a worse dating story from your country? Write to us. We dare you. episode EP70. ‘Working from home is killing careers for women’- Mothers can’t catch a break! cover

EP70. ‘Working from home is killing careers for women’- Mothers can’t catch a break!

This week on Two Sense Pod, Mariam and Rufaro get into the backlash surrounding the CEO of Skims and her comments about women “hurting” their corporate careers by working from home. The girls unpack the nuance — is there some truth to it, and if so, why is it still such a harmful narrative for women trying to move up in their careers? The conversation expands into the constant scrutiny mothers face, with opinions flying from every direction about how women should raise their children — and how somehow, they’re always doing it “wrong.” They also touch on a recent CNN article about a website reportedly promoting sexual violence and its disturbing level of traffic, reflecting on what that says about society and online spaces. A mix of workplace realities, societal pressure, and serious conversations — with the usual honest takes and back-and-forth. New episodes weekly. episode EP69. “Take Social Media Love With a Full Bag of Salt” cover

EP69. “Take Social Media Love With a Full Bag of Salt”

In this episode, Mariam and Rufaro unpack the illusion of love and relationships on social media, starting with a personal milestone. Mariam reflects on motherhood, raising two young children, and how a simple family photoshoot suddenly made everything feel more real and grounded. The conversation then shifts into the evolving debate around posting children online. Mariam and Rufaro explore the tension between preserving memories and protecting privacy, touching on safety concerns, digital footprints, and the long-term impact of sharing intimate moments of children’s lives publicly. They introduce a new segment, “Hot Take of the Week,” where things get more candid. This week’s discussion is sparked by a tragic and widely discussed story involving a woman who shared her romantic journey online before her sudden death during a vacation with her fiancé. Mariam and Rufaro reflect on how quickly public perception forms, how narratives are shaped online, and how little we truly know about people behind curated content. They dig deeper into the culture of “soft life” and aspirational relationship content, questioning the rise of idealized romance online and the pressure it creates. From performative couples content to viral “relationship goals,” they challenge the idea that what we see reflects reality, arguing that most of it is carefully crafted storytelling rather than truth. The conversation also explores dating preferences, especially how people frame attraction across race. They call out the tendency to justify preferences by putting down others, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness, nuance, and respect in these conversations. Wrapping up, Mariam and Rufaro critique prank couples, performative intimacy, and the growing obsession with online validation in relationships. The episode ends with a reminder to stay grounded in real-life connections, step away from curated narratives, and stop measuring personal relationships against what’s seen on a screen. EP68. "I Hate Selective Outrage" - Germany's Cost of Living, Friedrich Merz & the BAFTAs Controversy

Germany's cost of living is getting out of hand — fuel prices are climbing past €2.36 a litre, grocery runs cost €70 for barely ten items, and the government's answer is a whole lot of nothing. Mariam and Rufaro break down why over 55% of what you pay at the pump is just taxes, what Friedrich Merz is actually doing (and what it reminds them of), and why Angela Merkel's legacy hits differently when you compare it to what's happening now. Then they pivot to awards season — specifically what happened at the BAFTAs, a racial slur, and the Tourette's conversation that followed. Who gets the benefit of the doubt? Who gets diagnosed and who gets cancelled? They bring in the Kanye conversation too, and land on the one question the internet keeps dodging: does race change who we extend empathy to? "Who we give grace to says a lot about us." New episodes weekly. EP67. Are Wigs a Choice… Or a Comfort Zone? - A conversation on black natural hair

Is it really about time… or something deeper? In this episode, Mariam and Rufaro unpack the evolving relationship Black women have with their natural hair. From wigs and braids to relaxers and “protective styles,” they question the language, habits, and beliefs shaping how we show up. What starts as a light conversation about hair quickly turns into a deeper reflection on identity, confidence, and societal pressure. Especially as Black women living in Germany, where visibility and representation feel different. They discuss: * The truth behind “protective hairstyles” * Why many women never wear their natural hair out * The role of wigs, braids, and straight hair in self-image * Language like “difficult,” “stressful,” and what it really implies * Hair conversations in workplaces and living in Germany * The shift from the natural hair movement to today’s beauty trends * Relaxers, keratin treatments, and health concerns * Social media influence and changing beauty standards This episode is an honest, unfiltered conversation about hair, identity, and what it really means to embrace yourself. Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
Bra app. Oversiktlig og ryddig. MYE bra innhold⭐️⭐️⭐️
