Why I Live At Home Ep 2. How does your current living situation support your goals?
In this episode of Rooted and Rewired, we’re getting honest about something many of us quietly navigate — our living situations and what they represent in our journeys. Why I Live At Home isn’t just a story about location or circumstance; it’s a reflection on intention, alignment, and growth. For some, living at home might look like a step back, but for others, it’s a conscious choice to pause, reset, and plant stronger roots for what’s ahead. In Episode 2, I explore the deeper question:👉🏾 How does your current living situation support your goals? We unpack how our environments can either nurture or challenge our personal, spiritual, and professional development. Whether you’re saving for a dream, finishing school, or healing through transition, this conversation invites you to rethink what “home” truly means in this season of your life. Here’s what we dive into: * Why choosing stability can be a form of strength * The connection between space, peace, and purpose * How to make your environment reflect the version of you you’re becoming Sometimes staying “rooted” is the very thing that helps us get “rewired.” This episode encourages listeners to find freedom in their current space — not by running from where they are, but by understanding how it’s shaping them for what’s next. 🎧 Tune in to Episode 2 of Rooted and Rewired: “Why I Live At Home”Available now on all streaming platforms. The Big 3- #Racism, #Colorism, and #Texturism - How are these Ideologies Still Impacting Our World?
In today’s world, conversations around identity, inclusion, and equality are more important than ever. Yet, despite social progress, three deeply rooted ideologies continue to shape how we see ourselves and each other: racism, colorism, and texturism. Often called “The Big 3,” these interlocking systems of bias affect everything from our workplaces and relationships to media representation and self-worth. Let’s unpack how each one shows up—and why understanding their impact is essential for real change. 🌍 Racism: The Root of Systemic Division Racism remains the foundation upon which the other two ideologies stand. It’s not just about individual prejudice—it’s a system that advantages some groups while disadvantaging others based on skin color. From disparities in education and employment to unequal access to healthcare, racism continues to influence social outcomes across generations. What’s more, racism has evolved. Today, it hides behind coded language, institutional policies, and unconscious biases. The modern challenge is to recognize racism not only in overt acts but in everyday systems that normalize inequality. 🎨 Colorism: The Shade Within the Shade Colorism operates within communities of color, privileging lighter skin tones over darker ones. While racism stems from external oppression, colorism often functions as internalized oppression—a painful byproduct of colonialism and white supremacy. Think about it: lighter-skinned individuals are often perceived as more “acceptable” or “professional,” while darker skin tones are unfairly associated with negativity or inferiority. This bias shows up in casting calls, corporate offices, and even dating preferences. Colorism doesn’t just wound individuals—it divides communities, distorts beauty standards, and reinforces the very hierarchies racism created. 💫 Texturism: The Politics of Hair and Identity Texturism is the discrimination based on hair texture, often favoring looser curls or straighter hair over tightly coiled textures. It’s another form of bias tied to Eurocentric beauty ideals, and it particularly affects Black women and men navigating professional and social spaces. From workplace “grooming policies” to the natural hair movement, the struggle for acceptance has been ongoing. Texturism shapes how we feel about our own hair—what we consider “neat,” “beautiful,” or “acceptable.” The natural hair revolution has made huge strides, but the underlying attitudes around “good hair” versus “bad hair” are still being unlearned. 🧠 The Intersection: How The Big 3 Work Together Racism, colorism, and texturism don’t exist in isolation—they reinforce one another. Together, they create a layered experience of discrimination that shapes how people move through the world. For example, a darker-skinned person with tightly coiled hair may face compounded bias compared to someone lighter-skinned with looser curls, even within the same racial group. These overlapping systems of oppression shape everything from representation in media to access to opportunities. Recognizing this intersectionality is key to dismantling harmful norms and promoting true inclusivity. 💭 Moving Forward: Unlearning and Rebuilding Change begins with awareness—but it can’t stop there. We must challenge internalized beliefs, call out bias when we see it, and intentionally uplift those most affected by these ideologies. Representation matters, but so does equity, empathy, and education. When we create spaces that affirm all shades, textures, and identities, we move closer to a world where beauty and humanity aren’t filtered through a hierarchy of bias. ✨ Final Thought:Racism, colorism, and texturism may be old systems, but their impact is still felt today. Healing begins when we name them, understand them, and refuse to let them define how we see one another—or ourselves. The Rooted & Rewired™ is a reader-supported publication. When Leaving a Job Is Easy Series: Episode 2
Leaving is one thing. But what nobody warns you about is what happens after you leave. In Episode 1, I shared why walking away from a job doesn’t always come with struggle or drama—it can be peaceful, even freeing, when it’s truly time. But in this episode, I want to talk about something even more vulnerable: starting over. Because starting over? That’s the part that shook me. Quitting Was the Easy Part Williams Sonoma Inc gave me opportunities, growth, and challenges I didn’t see coming. But it also gave me clarity—clarity about what I didn’t want to keep doing. When the time came, quitting wasn’t filled with chaos or conflict. It was a quiet decision rooted in alignment. But once the email was sent, the goodbyes were said, and the equipment was returned… silence hit. The Silence After the Storm There’s a certain type of silence that follows a bold decision. Not everyone talks about it. It’s the quiet where the doubts creep in. The “what now?” moments that feel louder than the 9-to-5 you just walked away from. Suddenly, I was no longer clocking in. I wasn’t checking the same inbox or reporting to the same meetings. My calendar opened up—and so did my fears. Starting Over Feels Like Grief You don’t just walk away from a job—you walk away from routine, from familiarity, from a version of yourself that once found safety there. That’s a kind of grief no one prepares you for. Even if the job didn’t serve you anymore, it held space in your life. It gave you structure, stability, even identity. So when it’s gone? You feel the absence. And if you’re anything like me, you wonder: Did I make the right choice? What does success look like now? How long will it take to rebuild? The Truth? Starting Over Is Supposed to Be Scary You’re not weak because you’re scared. You’re not behind because you don’t have all the answers yet. Starting over is uncomfortable because it’s new ground. It’s wild and wide open. And that’s where possibility lives. I had to remind myself that courage doesn’t mean the fear disappears. It just means you move anyway. What I’m Learning in Real Time Since leaving Williams Sonoma, here’s what I’ve been sitting with: It’s okay not to rush. Clarity comes in pieces, not lightning bolts. You don’t have to “prove” your decision was right. Living in alignment is the proof. There’s power in reimagining your future. You don’t have to rebuild the old version of success. You can design something entirely new. To Anyone Who’s Just Left a Job… I see you. I get it. The world may congratulate you for being brave, but not everyone understands the emotional weight of beginning again. If you’re feeling fear, doubt, or grief—it’s okay. You’re not broken. You’re just in the middle of your becoming. What’s Next? That’s the question I’m still answering. But I know this: I didn’t leave safety for chaos—I left for freedom. And every day, I’m learning how to make peace with the unknown. Stay tuned for Episode 3, where I’ll dive into the practical side of starting over: finances, identity shifts, and building a life that doesn’t fit anyone else’s mold but mine. Until then, remember: Leaving can be easy, but becoming takes work—and you’re worthy of every step. Uncut: When Leaving a Job Is Easy — What It Really Means to Walk Away Without Looking Back
That’s the question that lingers when you exit a job — a space you once poured yourself into — and all you feel is… relief. No guilt. No tears. Just a quiet, steady exhale. This week on Rooted and Rewired, we’re sitting with that moment. The one where walking away doesn’t feel dramatic, or devastating, or even bittersweet. It just feels right. And maybe, that’s the real signal that it’s time. ✨ When the Ending Is Quiet but Clear In our culture, leaving a job is often painted as a big emotional shift — exit interviews, long goodbyes, tears at your desk. But what if the real exits — the honest ones — are quiet? What if the ease you feel isn’t detachment, but clarity? We’re talking about those moments where: * You’re not angry, just… done. * You’re not burned out, but you’re no longer invested. * You’re not fearful, just ready to move forward. 🧠 Burnout, Growth, or Divine Alignment? Sometimes, leaving is survival. Other times, it’s expansion. Either way, when the decision to walk away feels light — like taking off a coat you’ve outgrown — it’s usually not random. That ease may mean: * You’ve outgrown the role or environment. * You’ve healed what you came there to heal. * You’re no longer aligned with who you were when you said yes. It doesn’t have to mean something went wrong. It can simply mean your season there is complete. 😌 The Guilt of Ease Here’s where it gets tricky: when we don’t feel bad, we start to question ourselves.“Did I care enough?”“Shouldn’t I feel sad?”“Am I walking away too soon?” But guilt is not a requirement for closure.Just because the ending came without chaos doesn’t mean the experience didn’t matter.Ease is not evidence of failure. It’s a sign you listened before things broke down. 🧘🏾♀️ Listening to Your Nervous System & Intuition Your body knows the truth before your brain can rationalize it. When a job starts feeling heavy, misaligned, or energetically draining — long before the red flags or layoffs — your nervous system will tell you. Maybe your signals looked like: * Dreading Monday before Friday even ended. * Mentally checking out even though you're still performing. * Feeling a quiet disconnect you can’t quite explain. Trust that. Trust you. 🪞Your Permission to Let It Be Easy This episode of Rooted and Rewired is your permission slip:You’re allowed to leave a job without a dramatic story. You’re allowed to pivot without shame. You’re allowed to feel peace and walk away in confidence. Because not every ending has to be hard to be real. And sometimes, the cleanest breaks — the ones where you don’t look back — are the most sacred. 🎧 Tap in to Rooted and Rewired — the podcast where healing, growth, and identity intersect.
