EP. 18 Computer Games & Caffine

Wax Nostalgic is a show that looks back on the good Ol' days, Laugh with us as we reminisce about past experiences and memories from our younger lives. Co-hosts Graham Johnstone, Ryan Kerwin and Sam Bagnall In this episode we talk about computer games that we remember and then wake up some memories of caffeinated beverages In the first part of this episode we hack into some fond memories of computer games, Sam starts off by talking about his families first computer that had games like mine sweeper and “Rodents Revenge”. Then he talks about a handful of games he remembers from childhood including Neverhood,Roller Coaster Tycoon, Lego Racers (2) and Small soldiers. Next Ryan Segways into a classic strategy game, Age of Empires and his mission to save all of the sheep. Cheat codes become the next topic of discussion because, Who doesn’t like to play god one in a while.Ryan unlocks some memories about locking the butler in the freezer in TomeRaider 2. Then we talk about educational games and Ryan goes off about Zoombinis. Graham finishes off this segment remenisceing about some text based “Oregon Trail type of game” that he remembers playing with his friend. Then he tells us about a family friend who hooked him up with all sorts of tech goodies, resulting in 10 year old Graham rewiring his entire basement. Then he digs up Sherlock Holmes the Video video game. He raves about a popular puzzle game “Mist” and a few other related games. In the second portion of this one we wake up with a chat about caffeine. Graham starts us off with a JOLT, then he talks about JOSTA COLA, which sends us on a tangent about Dr. Pepper flavors? Then Graham share more stories of being a precocious young lad and running a VIRGIN COLA ring out of the back of his van. We tangent about coffee and how we got our start. Sam talks mostly about energy drinks. He tells the tail of caffeine overload in high school. Graham remembers his Dad’s car smelling like stale coffee and how that influenced his love of coffee. We talk about coffee vs tea for a bit and go off on a tangent about translating  English words into Japanese words… it was a fun one! DON’T TALK TO ME BEFORE I HAVE HAD MY JOLT! Co-hosts Graham Johnstone, Ryan Kerwin and Sam Bagnall In this episode we chat about our old cars or lack there of, and then summon a conversation about card games. In the first half of this episode we tinker with some memories of our old vehicles and some memories of not having cars. Ryan starts us off by talking about his shocking lack of a vehicle until he turned 27, But his family had cars and they had creative nicknames like Little Yellow and Big Red. He makes clear that he was very picky about the transmission on his first car. Stick shift only! Next Sam tells the terrifying truth about his car maintenance habits… if you are reading this… Change your oil. Do it. Finally Graham explains that he is a car person, at least there is one among us. He looks back at all of the random car his dad had and then remembers his mom’s talking car “MARK”. There is plenty of silly Carversation in this portion In the second half we play our hands in a chat about card games. Sam starts this section off by scratching the surface on the topic of Pokemon. After Graham goes on a wild tangent of Gen Z words Ryan dives into his younger days of Pokemon…. By singing the final verse of the poke-rap and then explains how he got stuck in the middle of the Magic the Gathering craze starting in the UK and ending in Japan. Finally Graham runs out the clock with some fun memories of Baseball cards and a guy who owned a sports memorabilia store named Mr… Big? Mr… K? the world may never know. Then he quickly explains a unique card game called Wyvern, This game is like a dragon specific version of Pokemon… or Magic or maybe DND.  The early morning recording session brought out some silly conversations!  That is it for another fun episode of Wax Nostalgic! Wax Nostalgic is a show that looks back on the good Ol' days, Laugh with us as we reminisce about past experiences and memories from our younger lives. Co-hosts Graham Johnstone, Ryan Kerwin and Sam Bagnall In this episode we remember an assortment of toys that we used to love and then we talk about snow, Snow days, Blizzards, etc.  In the first part of this episode we play around with some memories of toys that we used to love, Ryan starts us out by diving into his memory banks for a toy called 2XL, A little robot toy that tested your memory skills with a mysterious combination of magic and technology. This inspired his career in robotics! Next Graham builds his topic with colorful bricks of memory in a conversation about LEGOs, We dive into just how many innovations LEGO has made. From motors to microchips. This topic could have an episode of its own… And maybe it will ;). Last, Sam races into his topic of HOTWHEELS. Miles of orange track and hundreds of D batteries lead strait to a fun fast paced chat that ends with us discussing Micro Machines.  In the second half we cool things off with a chat about Snow. Snow days, Blizzards and deep snow in general. Graham starts us off by reminiscing about the Colorado Blizzard of 1997, Cars were buried, doors were blocked and streets were a mess. Then he goes on to talk about the Blizzard of 2003 in Colorado. This sparks Sam’s topic which is also the 2003 Blizzard in Colorado. He remembers building all sorts of fun snow forts, Igloos and caves. Finally Ryan reminds us that he did not grow up in the United States. He tells us of the soot factory in England and tiny snow men in Japan. But finally he gets into his time in the US where he FINALLY got some blizzard action. In St Paul Minnesota it snowed so hard that the roof of their football stadium caved in. Then he tells us of another time where there was so much snow that people were struggling to drive. Graham starts us off with stories of his guinea pig that gave birth from immaculate conception, then he tells about his childhood dogs, Yellow Snow and Scooter. Next Sam reminisces about his big fluffy dog Leroy and how he came to be their dog. Then we discuss dogs being afraid of random things. Finally Ryan recalls having SO MANY Cats. He sheds some light on how he had multiple cats named Jack.  In the second half of this episode we deep dive into the classic kids show, Legends Of The Hidden Temple. Co-hosts Graham Johnstone, Ryan Kerwin and Sam Bagnall In this episode reminisce about Baby Sitters and Camping, In the first part of this episodes we look back and remember baby sitters. Sam opens things up with a memory about an irresponsible baby sitter stunk up the house for days, then he peels back the layers on the story of a prank he pulled on a baby sitter that ended in a whole new wardrobe. Next a young Graham takes a roof top adventure by himself, Then he tells us the tale of a long lost movie (The Goonies). Finally he spills the beans on an underground day care operation. Finally Ryan shows off for his childhood baby sitter, who shows up later in life to join his family on their family vacation. Then we discuss in length the reasons why teenage boys are often overlooked for babysitting jobs.  In part 2 we have an intense conversation about camping, Graham kicks things off with a fun memory of his “ Shaggin Wagon” and a dirty dog, Then he takes us on a journey with a story of his family friends who took him on camping trips all summer long. Next Ryan goes to the boundary waters. Then he goes jeeping in an urban vehicle, they do a long hike to their campsite which ends up being a loop back to the parking lot  Finally Sam takes us to church (camp) he discusses a camping experience with a church group that led him out into the woods, After several days of gourmet meals they made their way back to society. Then he tells a more recent story of camping in train cars in the Lake District of England.  Another fun episode in the books.  Thanks for listening.
