episode Season 2 - Episode 5: Dr. Jim Hill & Successful Weight Loss Maintenance cover

Season 2 - Episode 5: Dr. Jim Hill & Successful Weight Loss Maintenance

This is Season 2, Episode 1 of the Weight Loss Success Stories Podcast, and I opened the season with someone who has helped shape how the field understands long-term weight control: Dr. Jim Hill. Dr. Hill is a prolific researcher and leading expert in weight loss and weight-loss maintenance, best known as a co-founder of the National Weight Control Registry, one of the most important long-running efforts to study people who have actually lost weight and kept it off. If you are tired of opinions, extremes, and doom-and-gloom narratives, this episode is a reset. In this conversation, we get very practical about what the data and real-world experience suggest: * Why weight loss and weight-loss maintenance are not the same problem, and why they require different skills and strategies. * What we have learned from thousands of long-term maintainers, including common patterns around physical activity, self-monitoring, and consistency. * A useful way to think about “types” of challenges that derail people, and how the solution needs to match the problem, not a one-size-fits-all plan. * Why setbacks are not failure, and how to build an “early warning system” so you can course-correct before small slips become full relapse. If you work with patients or clients, or if you are on your own weight-loss journey, this episode will give you a clearer mental model of what long-term success actually looks like, and what it tends to require. Listen to Weight Loss Success Stories Podcast, Season 2, Episode 1, and if it helps you, share it with someone who needs a more evidence-based, hopeful perspective on what is possible.

episode Season 1, Episode 5 - Sandeepa Rathnayaka cover

Season 1, Episode 5 - Sandeepa Rathnayaka

Season 1, Episode 5: An Extraordinary Transformation with Sandeepa Rathnayaka In this episode of Weight Loss Success Stories, I sit down with Sandeepa Rathnayaka, whose journey from severe illness, chronic pain, and emotional struggle to vibrant health and athletic performance is nothing short of remarkable. Sandeepa grew up between Sri Lanka and Japan, later moving to the United States to study chemical and biomolecular engineering at The Ohio State University. By early 2020, however, her life was turned upside down. She had been diagnosed with Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA), an incurable pulmonary disease that left her unable to breathe normally and reliant on high-dose corticosteroids. This treatment led to rapid weight gain, severe inflammation, debilitating sciatica from a slipped disc, and a profound sense of hopelessness. At her lowest point, she reached 253 pounds and 55 percent body fat. Everything changed when she met Paul, an IFBB pro, transformation specialist, and the person whose belief in her potential became the foundation for her turnaround. With structured programming, coaching, accountability, and an unwavering vision for what she could become, she rebuilt her health from the ground up. Across this conversation, Sandeepa shares: • Her mindset shift, including how belief, structure, and accountability replaced cycles of depression and emotional eating. • The truth about her early habits, and how regulating rather than restricting food created massive physical and emotional change. • How prioritizing whole foods, protein, micronutrients, and hydration helped reduce inflammation, stabilize energy, and support long-term consistency.  • Her disciplined strength training approach, built around full-body training, push–pull sequencing, form, intensity, and hypertrophy-focused programming. • How she tracks sleep, meal timing, bowel movements, and trends in body composition to stay grounded in data rather than emotion.  • The role of love, connection, and belief, and how support from the right person can serve as a catalyst rather than a crutch. • Her dramatic health improvements, including resolving her pulmonary disease and eliminating years of sciatica pain through strength training, nervous system regulation, and meditation. • A powerful perspective on obesity, personal leadership, and the importance of compassion without surrendering agency. • The deeper identity work behind lasting transformation, including resolving emotional roots, not just changing behaviors. This is one of the most comprehensive and meaningful stories shared on the podcast so far. Sandeepa’s transformation highlights what becomes possible when the right mindset, the right structure, and the right support converge. Season 1, Episode 3 - James Dobbin

🎙️ Weight Loss Success Stories Podcast — Season 1, Episode 3 “From Living With Obesity to Pro Natural Bodybuilder: The Transformation of James Dobbin” In this episode, Jeff Young talks with James Dobbin, a 42-year-old father of three from Lincolnshire, England, who went from battling obesity, high blood pressure and burnout to becoming a pro natural bodybuilder and founder of Reclaim Coaching. James shares how one message—“It’s your fault, but that means you’re also the solution”—completely reframed his mindset. That moment of accountability sparked a two-year transformation grounded in discipline, tracking, and consistency. He opens up about the turning points that shaped his journey: juggling family loss and long commutes, rejecting excuses, and using strength training and structured nutrition to reclaim control over his health. Together, Jeff and James discuss why motivation fades but discipline and self-education create lasting change. They also tackle common myths in the weight loss world. James explains why calorie tracking is empowering, not restrictive, and how simple, sustainable habits—adequate protein, hydration, and consistency—produced lasting results. His transformation speaks for itself: ·       Resting heart rate dropped from 86 to 44 bpm ·       Blood pressure improved from 173/110 to 110/55 ·       Energy, confidence, and purpose returned stronger than ever James’s message is clear: don’t wait for a health scare—start now. Swap bad habits for good ones, and stay consistent long enough to let them define who you are. 📍 Connect with James: Website: reclaimcoaching.co.uk [https://reclaimcoaching.co.uk/] Instagram: @reclaim_coaching [https://www.instagram.com/reclaim_coaching]
