We're Making A Movie: Moving Into Post-Production

We’re officially wrapping up the production chapter of this filmmaking podcast and diving headfirst into post-production research. Now that the movie is “in the can,” what’s next? When will it be ready? What is taking so long??? Well, turns out, getting the green light can take years, filming happens in the blink of an eye, but post-production takes for-ev-er! (Okay, maybe not… but it certainly feels that way.) Your movie has to go to a lot of different departments before it’s ready to be seen by the world. Color-grading, sound mixing, title sequences… just to name a few. There is a long list of people who put their creative mark on the project in these final stages. We're Making A Movie: The Script Supervisor

Our Script Supervisor, Rachael Agnello, is in the hot seat this week, and we are so excited to talk to her about her experience making this feature film. Script Supervisor is one of those jobs that does so much more than people realize. They’re tracking continuity, dialogue, takes, and details for the editor, and basically helping ensure the whole movie can actually cut together when production is over. No pressure. We’re sitting down with Rachael to talk about what that looked like on our first feature film, what she was watching for on set, and what she’s taking away from the experience as a filmmaker herself. Rachael has a passion for continuity and detail in film. She graduated early from the University of Alabama, where she found her love for script supervising. We're Making A Movie: The Production Department

If you’ve ever been on a film set, you know the person quietly keeping everything from falling apart is the First Assistant Director. From building the schedule to bridging communication between departments to keeping the entire shoot on track — the First AD is absolutely invaluable. On “Turns Out It’s the Apocalypse… We Think,” our First AD was Ryan Cagle, and hot damn were we lucky to have him. Indie filmmaking means rolling with the punches, and Ryan was there every step of the way, making sure we still made our day despite all the curveballs thrown at us. Ryan Cagle is freshly out of college and is very excited to get the ball rolling in his film career. During his time in college and post-college, Ryan has been on over 40 short film sets, and this production will be his 5th feature film! Ryan was born and raised in Knoxville, TN, before making his way to the University of Alabama. He has a passion for all sides of film. From working as an Assistant Director, shopping for a costume department, and even performing on screen, Ryan wants to be a part of it all!
