Cricket Continues to Chirp: Ovida Coogler

Around 3am March 31st 1949 Ovida Coogler is last seen entering a car in Las Cruces, New Mexico. No one can agree on the description of the car. With so many nefarious men lurking and corrupt law enforcement it is a tall order for the press and the everyday men and women seeking justice for the popular waitress. Her murder remains unsolved but her legacy led to the dismantling of the system that would have abandoned her in the desert. Yet, compared to white victims, their stories are less known. To remedy the obscuring of black history and suffering in America we'll be exploring these cases three at a time in chronological order.
