episode What Is Creativity? with Jane Hilberry cover

What Is Creativity? with Jane Hilberry

Recently retired Colorado College professor of Creativity and poet, Jane Hilberry is a master teacher, a kind listener and an out-of-the-box thinker. We have a beautiful, challenging, life-affirming conversation about creativity -- What it is, How to teach it, Where it's found -- in schools, in one-on-one dialogue (conversation is improv!) and in relationships -- including the relationships we have with ourselves. We also talk about each person’s essential essence (core beauty), and the benefits of art-making for mental health plus a healthier shared world. Listen to it a few times over! Show Notes: Book: "Inciting Joy," by Ross Gay - Chapter 11, Dispatch from the Ruins (on education) Book: "The Creative Act: A Way of Being," by Rick Rubin David Brooks video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypRx0bigDVw] interview (on listening to/seeing others), re: his book, "How to Know a Person" Book: "The Trickster’s Hat," by Nick Bantock Japanese TV Show: “Old Enough” The Holistic Psychologist [https://theholisticpsychologist.com/] Amy Poehler's MasterClass: "Prepare to Be Unprepared" (about Improv) Exponential Impact [https://www.exponentialimpact.com/pitch-night-interest-form] Pitch Night Non Book Club Book Club [https://www.facebook.com/nonbookclubbookclub/] Recorded June 19, 2024 at Studio21c [https://ppld.org/create/studio21c] with Jane Hilberry and Heila Rogers

episode Quantum Physics & Poetry with Theunette Antill cover

Quantum Physics & Poetry with Theunette Antill

My friend Theunette, although a finance professional, loves space. She reads "Scientific American" for fun, and I love hearing her talk about how stars are formed and other similar subjects. Some of our conversations about these topics have then flowed into rich discussions about the meaning of life, and healing. These talks almost always make me grab around for poetry that I've encountered; which comes the closest of anything (because words start to fail us, the deeper we go into some concepts) to being able to describe ... wordless wonder.   Art “goes there,” like that. It is able like nothing else, to embody and express the deepest truths.   Enjoy, as we explore together. Talking in this way is one of my favorite things. A creation in itself, these conversations.   Alllll the Show Notes (quite a few this time) --> "The Man," song by Taylor Swift   Such Singing in the Wild Branches [excerpt] by Mary Oliver Winter Poem by Nikki Giovanni Excerpt of “It’s strange about stars” from Sun Up by Lola Ridge What We Need Is Here by Wendell Berry [Poems gleaned from the Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble Wintersong concert in Colorado Springs, Colorado, December 2023]   “At some point in life the world's beauty becomes enough. You don't need to photograph, paint, or even remember it. It is enough.” ― Toni Morrison “If you surrendered to the air, you could ride it.” ― Toni Morrison, Song of Solomon [https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/3215642] “Beauty was not simply something to behold; it was something one could do.” ― Toni Morrison, The Bluest Eye [https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/1987778]   “All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.” ― Toni Morrison   {The movie character of "Olaf" in Frozen} Psalm 136.9 (from the Bible, my own personalized version) When they saw the star, the sight filled them with intense joy. Matthew 2.10 (Bible - Weymouth New Testament version)   Additional quotes from: "On the Origin of Time: Stephen Hawking’s Final Theory," by Thomas Hertog "Astrophysics for People In A Hurry," by Neil deGrasse Tyson [Recorded at Studio916 PPLD in Colorado Springs on February 24, 2024 with Theunette Antill, Heila Rogers]

episode Art & Trauma & Us cover

Art & Trauma & Us

Misconceptions regarding trauma: My thoughts. People think it's rare, that it's not applicable to them, that words don't matter only war experiences, that someone can't be in a crisis and also confident. What is, "little t" and "big T" trauma? The concept of Trauma Chemo -- and healing from adverse life experiences. The results of rewarding dominance and narcissism in our society. How addiction recovery can mean new neural pathways. Trümmerfrauen & Rebuilding with Jules Thompson (Part 2)

We discuss how anger is a reasonable response to being hurt and also a necessary part of the healing process. How we learned to identify, feel and express it (and other feelings) appropriately and safely. Realizing we're not a bad person for having anger. The relationship of anger to grief. When Jesus was angry. Judging others' anger. Recognizing wrong. Physical movement to release old feelings. Hiding our true selves in different ways. Continuing to seek authentic connection; and addressing our own old psychological programming. Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
Bra app. Oversiktlig og ryddig. MYE bra innhold⭐️⭐️⭐️
