11 episodesFletcher is a portfolio manager for a group that manages $1.5 Billion in assets. He majored in Finance at StFX, and took several complementary Economics courses. These have helped tremendously in his current position, where his group follows a "top-down" investment strategy which first assesses macroeconomic and financial conditions before focusing on specific industries or firms.
Casey is a two-time national champion with X-Women rugby who graduated as the top BA student is 2014. After StFX she spent two years working full-time at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa while simultaneously completing her M.A. degree in Economics on a part-time basis at Carleton University. In 2016 she moved to the Department of Finance and is currently working on many projects related to quantitative economics, including forecasting models of provincial economic activity.
Jack graduated from StFX with an Honours BA degree in Economics and took several Business courses as electives. His interests in Business and Economics continued in graduate school, where he obtained a Master of Financial Economics (MFE) at the University of Toronto. He did extremely well in that program, even helping them recruit more students from Atlantic Canada. He is currently working as a trader for RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.
After graduating with a BBA in 2011, Tory Novakova did a 5th-year at StFX in which she continued playing varsity basketball, loaded-up on Economics courses and worked as a Research Assistant on campus. She then completed a Masters degree in Finance and Economics at the University of Warwick in the UK and was immediately recruited to work as an equity research analyst in Edinburgh. She currently resides in Boston, working for Aberdeen Standard Investments, but will soon be joining Amundi Pioneer Asset Management.
Matt Cormier (BA 2016), Scott Sampson (BA 2018) and Amy Rowe (BA 2019) have a lot in common: (i) They all discovered Economics while at StFX; (ii) they all completed Masters degrees; and (iii) they all work at consulting firm Charles River Associates. However, while Matt and Amy work out of Toronto, Scott works in the Washington, DC office. Hear their stories about how StFX helped them develop the skills they needed to succeed, how they all ended-up at CRA, and of the usefulness of the StFX Economics alumni network.
