We interviewed on stage Leslie Reed, former mission director for USAID in Egypt and current director for Jordan. Leslie discussed the role development finance has in moving the needle on climate — including a dive into how USAID is trying to help us save the coral reefs along the Red Sea coast. She also discussed the importance of developing human capital, the need for business and regulators to work together to expedite initiatives, and whether grants or blended finance would work best to support the business of climate. The massive re-plumbing of the global economy to become more climate-friendly comes at a very high cost. So, how are we going to fund it all? In come the banks. Banks are no different than the rest of us: They want to know where the opportunities are. They worry about not doing enough, but also about being accused of greenwashing. They want to be part of the solution. So, how are they contributing and pushing companies and clients to be more sustainable? Participants: Todd Wilcox (Linkedin [https://www.linkedin.com/in/todd-wilcox-32a1b24/?originalSubdomain=eg]), CEO and Deputy Chair, HSBC Egypt. Tarek El Nahas (Linkedin [https://www.linkedin.com/in/tarek-el-nahas-85119a195/?originalSubdomain=ae]), Group Head of International Banking, Mashreq. Nader Aboushadi (Linkedin [https://www.linkedin.com/in/nader-aboushadi/?originalSubdomain=ae]), Group Treasurer, Dar Group. Interviewed by: Patrick FitzPatrick, Editor-in-Chief, Enterprise.
