It doesn't always leave physical marks and can affect anyone regardless of age or gender. Recognizing it early is the first step toward safety and support. Common Warning Signs of Abuse * Emotional & Psychological: Constant put-downs, screaming, blaming you for their actions, excessive jealousy, or making you feel as though you are losing your mind (gaslighting). * Isolation: Stopping you from seeing friends or family, guilt-tripping you for spending time with others, or closely tracking your whereabouts. * Financial: Taking your money, controlling access to bank accounts, or preventing you from working or going to school. * Physical & Sexual: Slapping, hitting, pushing, restraining you, or pressuring/forcing you into unwanted sexual acts. * Coercion & Threats: Threatening to hurt you, your children, or pets, destroying your personal property, or threatening self-harm to keep you from leaving. The Party Ruiner: Someone who gets way too drunk, starts unprompted arguments, or makes everyone else feel uncomfortable with inappropriate jokes.
