Dr. Leor Roseman, Senior Lecturer and Psychedelic Researcher at the University of Exeter, has explore this avenue. His study “Relational Processes in Ayahuasca Groups of Palestinians and Israelis” a few years ago, was fascinating.I read about it in 2021, (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8170481/) and we recorded the first podcast. To me the idea made a lot of sense. Now, with the urgency amid the current situation after October 7th, his work seems more important than ever. In his scientific work Leor examines how psychedelics can serve as peacemaking tools by altering consciousness through a biopsychosocial lens, incorporating neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, and phenom enology. With a background at the Centre for Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London, under Prof. Robin Carhart-Harris and Prof. David Nutt, Leor was curious how psychedelics now can deliver a new peacemaking tool. His foundation Ripples, a non-profit dedicated to peace building supported by psychedelics, is now researching new ideas around understanding, without ignoring the actual conflict. The urgency right now is on the Israel and Palestine Conflict. But his work can be valid for other conflicted parties too. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. TODAY, I AM TALKING WITH GUL DOLEN, A PIONEERING NEUROSCIENTIST FROM BERKELEY UNIVERSITY AND A LEADING EXPERT IN SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, PSYCHEDELICS, AND BRAIN PLASTICITY. GÜL’S GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH HAS UNCOVERED HOW HORMONES LIKE OXYTOCIN AND SEROTONIN INTERACT IN THE BRAIN TO PRODUCE FEELINGS OF SOCIAL CONNECTION. SHE HAS ALSO EXPLORED HOW PSYCHOACTIVE DRUGS LIKE MDMA CAN ENHANCE SOCIAL BEHAVIORS ACROSS SPECIES, INCLUDING OCTOPUSES. MOST RECENTLY, HER WORK INVESTIGATES HOW PSYCHEDELICS CAN REOPEN CRITICAL PERIODS OF SOCIAL REWARD LEARNING, OFFERING NEW HOPE FOR UNDERSTANDING AND TREATING SOCIAL DISORDERS. WE TALK ABOUT THE REOPENING OF THE BRAIN’S CRITICAL PERIODS AND HOW MDMA THERAPY CAN CHANGE YOUR MIND. FIND MORE INFORMATION HERE. Today’s episode is particularly special. I recorded this session in our hotel room studio during the Psychedelic Science Conference in Denver. The duo you’ll hear shortly is truly exceptional in their efforts to destigmatize psychedelics, a movement gaining significant momentum right now. My guests are Professor Rachel Yehuda and Governor Rick Perry. Professor Rachel Yehuda is the Director of the Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She plays a pivotal role in pioneering psychedelic research related to veterans and PTSD. Governor Rick Perry is a prominent American politician and the former governor of Texas. He also served as the 14th U.S. Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019. Perry has argued that ibogaine could be an incredible treatment for addiction and PTSD in veterans and has dedicated himself to advancing the public understanding and acceptance of psychedelics. In this episode, we discuss the evolving landscape of psychedelics in the United States, exploring why a bipartisan approach could be a powerful solution for rescheduling psychedelics and expanding access to healing therapies nationwide.
