He's a former fellow at Stanford and one of the original founders of the field of behavioral AI. In today's gaming landscape, AI characters have become a staple, featuring in nearly half of all titles. Yet, when these characters arrive in XR, they often plunge into the "uncanny valley" due to their stiff and scripted demeanor. With our recent VR game, "Space Companions", we've discovered that this valley can be narrowed by blending two emerging technologies. Behavioral AI endows characters with realistic motions and interactions in virtual spaces, whereas conversational AI equips them with the ability to participate in deep, adaptive conversations. Alessio Grancini, Senior AR Prototype Engineer at Magic Leap, is passionately turning design concepts into cutting-edge AR applications. Starting in AR/VR architectural visualization, Alessio contributed to the design of "Reef Rescue," an Emmy-awarded VR game by Super 78 Studios. In 2019, he led the "Interfaces" AR project at Milan Design Week with Morphosis and Dassault Systèmes. As a freelancer, Alessio helped develop an AR app for Shilo Homes, an ADU company, resulting in securing crucial funding. Keen on the advancing XR space, Alessio converses with XR Professionals on his podcast, "Everything Everywhere XR", part of a Discord community with 1400+ members.
