Acerca de Antiques Anonymous

Hello and welcome to Antiques Anonymous, the podcast where two friends who work in the antiques industry, talk about antiques, collectables, fine art and plenty more besides. Hosted by auctioneer Alexander Clement and antiques dealer Jon O'Marah, the chat will include top auctions, top lots, top tips and plenty of inside intel, anecdotes and maybe even some gossip. If you are an antiques geek, like Alexander and Jon, then join them for their rambling and sometimes incoherent podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Artform Formerly Known As . . .

Back again after another long gap with episode 8 of the Antiques Anonymous podcast. In this episode, Alexander gets a bit serious about stress in the workplace and how important reaching out to a friend can be. We hear why a power cut and a jigsaw puzzle led Alexander to bid live on a coffee table and in their usual 'Did They Get It Wrong' segment, he reveals his dislike of Mickey Mouse (quick and terrible impression alert) and then on to the main topic this time - prints - as suggested by a listener. As they ramble on, Jon comes clean about his art degree and the hosts disagree agreeably in general about various artists including John Piper, L.S.Lowry, Tracy Emin, Albrecht Durer, Kathe Kollwitz, Damien Hurst (ugh) and Banksy. We also get an insight into Alexander's misspent youth 'studying' graffiti art. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. General Purpose

The podcast by two guys who are a little bit addicted to antiques. Jon and Alexander are back in the Torpedo Room for another rambling chat, this time about the gradual disappearance of the weekly general auction. Is it on the way out or is there still a future for this time honoured and well loved part of the antiques trade? We hear about what Alexander used to get up to in the back of his Ford Mondeo in the good old days, Jon expresses his dislike of specialist auctions and reveals how he'd do it if he ran his own saleroom, and Alexander risks offending the entire nation of Australia. Plus, your hosts reveal the topic of the next ep. Don't forget to rate and review the show on your pod-catcher of choice and get in touch via the socials if you want to send a message to Jon and Alexander or suggest topics for future episodes. episode Algorithm and Blues artwork
Algorithm and Blues

In this episode, Jon and Alexander talk about the many merits and demerits of social media in the antiques world, confess to a little guerilla marketing and give a shout-out to 'rival' podcast The Gavel and the Gabble (hello Harry and Simon!). Also in the rambling Torpedo Room convo, Jon discovers that he just squeaks into Generation X but has no idea what that means, what shabby chic really looks like when you get it home, a little more gentle dunking of the Antiques Roadshow, and why Jon is emphatically not wowed by a crumpled old top hat - and why would he be? All this and more from your favourite antiques anoraks. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy [https://acast.com/privacy] for more information.

Hippies Use the Back Door

This episode, Jon and Alexander ensure they never get booked for any more TV shows by talking candidly about antiques on the telly, revealing some of their own experiences in front of and behind the cameras, as well as their views on whether the television industry has worked for good or ill in the antiques world. They also introduce the new segment 'Did They Get it Wrong?', looking at the Antiques Trade Gazette's now infamous 'Bid Barometer' sidebar and critiquing the results therein. How many more enemies can they make? Don't forget to rate and review the show and/or head over to www.buymeacoffee.com/antiquesanonymous to throw some groats at your hosts. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Return of the Teaser Trailer

Wanna know what's coming up in the next episode? Well here's a quick teaser for you to whet you're antiques appetite. Jon and Alexander celebrate the purchase of a new microphone and so to break it in they got together to record a little teaser (again) on the theme for episode 5 as well as introduce a new segment. Don't forget to rate and review the pod on your favourite player - it really does help - and if you're feeling extra generous you can support the show by heading over to www.buymeacoffee.com/antiquesanonymous to throw a few groats at us so that we can keep the lights on and the content coming. In the meantime, Jon and Alexander invite you to stand to attention and salute our solitary listener in Peru. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
