In this episode I'm joined by Ryan Hunn of the Stadio Podcast to discuss Arsenal's 2-1 win over Real Madrid, and qualification for the semi-finals of the Champions League. We chat about the key moments of the game, the penalty miss and the penalty incident at the other end, Madrid's attacking approach to the game and how it was informed by our defensive quality and organisation, the goals we scored, what these two games say about this team, our Champions League chances, some individuals like Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Jakub Kiwior and lots more. Then I chat to Elliot Smith from the ArsenalVision Podcast about the fundraiser for the Arsenal Foundation, and how your donations will help continue the incredible work they do on every level. In this episode we look back at Saturday's 1-1 draw with Brentford, Arsenal's 12th of the season. We chat about the context of the game between the two Real Madrid ties, team selection decisions, whether Brentford should have had a man sent off as well as Gabriel Martinelli's comments about that challenge afterwards, the goal we scored and the one we conceded, and finishing the game with 10 men. Then we answer listener questions about Gary Neville's punditry, how to approach the second leg in Madrid, what to do in midfield if both Jorginho and Thomas Partey are unavailable, Josh's basketball distractions this summer, and loads more. In this bonus half an Arsecast Extra, James and I look back on last night's incredible 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League. We assess an intense, high quality first half, before we get into the second half action, key of which were two extraordinary free kicks from Declan Rice. We chat about how those goals fed into what was already an amazing atmosphere, James talks about his experience in the stands at the Emirates, and then the third goal from Mikel Merino to ice the cake. There's also discussion of how big a night this is for the team in the context of this season, how the tie lies going into the second leg in Madrid, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and lots more. In this episode we discuss the 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday, starting with an atypical team selection from Mikel Arteta who obviously had the Champions League in mind when picking his starting XI. We discuss the first half, the goal we scored, a sloppy start to the second half and the penalty awarded to Everton. Was it more a referee error, or VAR? We chat about that, and how we still had plenty of time to find a winner but as has been the case more than once this season we failed to do so. We then answer listener questions about this season as a whole, defensive and attacking selections for the Real Madrid game, Jakub Kiwior, David Raya's penalty saving technique, and loads more.
