Despite being outlawed in all countries around the world, human trafficking remains a lucrative and growing business, affecting millions of people each year. It is estimated that there are over 49 million victims of modern slavery worldwide, with many more vulnerable to being exploited. But what is human trafficking? How do you define and identify it? At what point does labor exploitation turn into forced servitude? “Human trafficking” has become a buzzword, thrown around in media reports and dramatized in movies and television shows. Even advocacy organizations offer conflicting definitions of human trafficking. In this podcast, Harvard students Lucy Tu, Cindy Tian, and Austin Li aim to delve into the complex issues of human trafficking, slavery, and abolition in the modern world. Our goal is to raise awareness about this critical problem, dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding it, and offer listeners actionable steps they can take to support the fight against modern slavery. Each episode features an interview with someone who has been affected by human trafficking, whether through advocacy, education, or personal experience. We hope to provide a platform for their voices to be heard and to shed light on the realities of human trafficking.
