Title: Revenge of the Banker's Daughter Author: Matt Ryan Narrator: Dwayne Dalton Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 45 mins Language: English Release date: 01-15-18 Publisher: Kitsap Publishing Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: Can there be a happy ending to this drama? This super-engaging thriller couldn't be more topical and timely. Author T. Matt Ryan, inspired from his observations and experiences in politics, has created a novel about corruption, betrayal, and revenge along with justice and redemption in small town America. Set in rural Western Colorado shortly after World War II, 17-year-old Gloria Knight's life is shattered when she is raped after her high school graduation dance and her fiancé is falsely charged with the crime. Her father, the most powerful man in Goodwin County, orchestrates a cover-up of the crime with the local sheriff and judge. An outraged Gloria then sets in motion a chain of events that could irreversibly end an era when one man ruled the county. Members Reviews: A cleaver and unpredictable story The story line is Romeo and Juliet. The time is mid 1900s. The place is rural America. The writer's detail paints a vivid picture of not so benign small town politics. The course of event takes the reader to unexpected places and feelings. It is a thriller propelling the reader forward. I would love to see this made into a movie.

Title: On the Homefront Author: Barb Warner Deane Narrator: Rebecca McKernan Format: Unabridged Length: 9 hrs and 29 mins Language: English Release date: 01-15-18 Publisher: The Wild Rose Press Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: In 1941, WWII begins for the United States, and life will never be the same for three women as they send their husbands, brothers, and friends off to war. Ruth, a young wife and teacher, Lilly her teenage sister-in-law, and Helen, a British war bride, learn to cope with rationing, change, fear, loss, humiliation, and brutality while they forge an impenetrable bond and grow to be stronger than any of them ever dreamed possible. They lean on each other for support, aided by the family and friends who surround them, but when one decides to go to the front lines as part of the American Red Cross Clubmobile program, how can they cope with her absence - and more telegrams reporting loss? Members Reviews: Captivating characters This book really kept my interest. I finished it in two days. More than that, I connected with the characters so much that I wish there was a second epilogue, to tell me even more about their lives after the war. The story wraps up nicely and Im not dissatisfied, but Im invested enough in the women to want to hear more. It was a great insight into life during the war. I wasnt born yet, so I enjoyed getting to live through a few different perspectives.

Thunderbolt from Navarone Audiobook by Sam Llewellyn

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1211/ [https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1211/] to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Thunderbolt from Navarone Author: Sam Llewellyn Narrator: Jonathan Oliver Format: Unabridged Length: 9 hrs and 14 mins Language: English Release date: 01-04-18 Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: Following on in Alistair MacLean's footsteps, Sam Llewellyn, an enthralling storyteller in his own right, has produced another riveting sequel to the classic adventures The Guns of Navarone and Force 10 From Navarone. Fresh from their mission against Werewolf U-Boats, Mallory, Miller and Andrea are summoned to Naval HQ and given their new mission: to reconnoitre the Greek island of Kynthos and determine the German development of the lethal and experimental V3 rocket, and destroy any facilities. They're given a rocket expert to accompany them - but can they trust him? Filled with the same riveting storytelling as the originals by the master himself, this new Navarone adventure is bound to please old and new fans alike. Members Reviews: Well crafted suspense Very enjoyable read. Fast paced suspense. Allastair MacLean has created some remarkable characters, and Llewellyn has done them justice. I regret that their are no more sequels, as this would make for a terrific series. Four Stars Great read. entertaining not quite the same as the original but,not bad either.I did buy storm force also.they did not have the punch of ice station zebra. Great Novel I found this novel to be very entertaining. I will read more novels by this author, whenever they are available. Not a winning combination Like the other reviewer, Robert Dinger, I have really enjoyed Sam Llewellyn. I am also a great fan of Alistair MacLean's earlier works. If you expect a winning combination in THUNDERBOLT FROM NAVARONE, though, you will be sorely disappointed. The story was not captivating, the characters were not interesting. The cliff-hangers were paraded past like a sad Indiana Jones wanna-be. This is no successor for Alistair MacLean. Again, Sam Llewellyn's yacht racing mysteries are very enjoyable, especially if you're a Dick Francis fan, and I am looking forward to the next one of those.

Flashman in the Peninsula Audiobook by Robert Brightwell

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1211/ [https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1211/] to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Flashman in the Peninsula Subtitle: Adventures of Thomas Flashman, Book 3 Author: Robert Brightwell Narrator: Henry Clore Harrison Format: Unabridged Length: 11 hrs and 40 mins Language: English Release date: 12-28-17 Publisher: Henlow Publishing Ltd Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: This is the third installment in the memoirs of the Georgian Englishman, Thomas Flashman, which were recently discovered on a well-known auction website. Thomas is the uncle of the notorious Victorian rogue, Harry Flashman, whose memoirs have already been published, edited by George MacDonald Fraser. Thomas shares many of the family traits, particularly the ability to find himself reluctantly at the sharp end of many major events of his age. While many people have written books and novels on the Peninsular War, Thomas Flashman's memoirs offer a unique perspective. They include new accounts of famous battles, but also incredible incidents and characters almost forgotten by history. Flashman is revealed as the catalyst to one of the greatest royal scandals of the 19th century, which disgraced a prince and ultimately produced one of our greatest novelists. In Spain and Portugal, he witnesses catastrophic incompetence and incredible courage in equal measure. He is present at an extraordinary action where a small group of men stopped the army of a French marshal in its tracks. His flatulent horse may well have routed a Spanish regiment, while his cowardice and poltroonery certainly saved the British army from a French trap. Accompanied by Lord Byron's dog, Flashman faces death from Polish lancers and a vengeful Spanish midget, not to mention finding time to perform a blasphemous act with the famous Maid of Zaragoza. This is an account made more astonishing as the key facts are confirmed by various historical sources. Members Reviews: Best successor yet to GMF...!! This book is exceptional, almost need not say more. Robert Brightwell obviously has done his research and put forth a book well worthy of the George MacDonald Fraser series!! Brightwell's character, Thomas "Flashman" is well written and he stays in trouble along the lines of "Ol' Flashy" himself. I really do feel that many heroes in life actually come by their acts and "fame?" largely due to being in "the wrong place at the right time"! This book will generate many future sales from Robert Brightwell by me, and hopefully others that love this genre'..... The story of The Legion Lusitania is stuff that we never hear about and to write that, along with other incidents and persons of The Peninsular Campaign, is.....well, I don't want to spoil it for anyone! Keep it up, Mr. Brightwell - you have a talent for bringing us Historical Fiction and eager readers will flock to you!! Excellent follow up to the Cobra At last, Mr Brightwell has got it right. I wrote what I hope was a great review on The Cobra, another cracking good read but let down by an unfortunate 'in-joke' which for me marred what was an exceptional yarn. Not so in this instance and I would put this up against, indeed at the top of the pile of all of the other Flashman Wanabees. Thomas Flashman is a character all of his own and as I had the pleasure of knowing George MacDonald Fraser, I know he would have loved this.

Title: The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. Author: Sandra Gulland Narrator: Kim Handysides Format: Unabridged Length: 14 hrs and 35 mins Language: English Release date: 11-21-17 Publisher: Audible Studios Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: In this first of three books inspired by the life of Josephine Bonaparte, Sandra Gulland has created a novel of immense and magical proportions. We meet Josephine in the exotic and lush Martinico, where an old island woman predicts that one day she will be queen. The journey from the remote village of her birth to the height of European elegance is long, but Josephine's fortune proves to be true. By way of fictionalized diary entries, we traverse her early years as she marries her one true love, bears his children, and is left betrayed, widowed, and penniless. It is Josephine's extraordinary charm, cunning, and will to survive that catapults her to the heart of society, where she meets Napoleon, whose destiny will prove to be irrevocably intertwined with hers. Members Reviews: Excellent read This very lengthy novel is written entirely in diary entries and letters, which is interesting and makes it easy to read in small time windows. It involves the early history and life story of Josephine Bonaparte. The characters, of which there are too many, are well developed in most cases, and the book has so many good facts that will help the reader understand the challenges and sadness of the period of the French Revolution. Not boring. Some of the taboos and customs of that period of history are way over-the-top, some funny and others just weird or terrifying. There are sequels that continue the story, which tell about Josephine's life as queen. I very much enjoyed reading this novel and especially liked the formatting of letters/diary entries rather than just text. Interesting.. I knew nothing about Joséphine, except her name. As I have learned about her, I have also learned so much about the aftermath of Bastille Day.. the terrors of the Jacobins and Franceâs struggle for liberty. The book is written in small interesting chunks so this history is easily digested! I thought to myself "If this smart woman loves these books enough to read them multiple ... I had heard Senator Claire McCaskill say she had read this series a few times. I thought to myself "If this smart woman loves these books enough to read them multiple times than, you have to read them " This first book of the series is really good. The story pulled me in from the start. I had never in my life been interested in French history but after reading this I can't wait to start the second book. The young Josephine was a fascinating, smart , caring young woman and the times in which she lived were tumultuous . I am hooked.Extremely well written. Great historical fiction The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. by Sandra Gulland is the first installment in a trilogy about Josephine Bonaparte. The first installment is fascinating, magnetic even, but so many things happen in the book that it feels long, longer than its four hundred-ish pages. The title couldnât have been different; it pays homage not to a life but to the journey of a woman of modest beginnings who became extraordinary during the times and suffering she endured. I acknowledge that since the book more or less started with a prophecy I was desperate to see it play out, so much so that when the book became seriousâtoo much so describing the events during The Reign of Terror and Rose and her friendsâ incarcerationâI felt tempted to leave it aside.
