Acerca de Housing for Good

Housing for Good is brought to you by McPherson Housing Coalition, the HUD-designated Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) for McPherson County, Kansas. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to addressing housing needs, the Coalition develops and supports affordable housing opportunities throughout the region. As part of that mission, Housing for Good provides a forum for conversations about housing, affordability, homelessness, and community development. Hosted by Chris Goodson and Karolyn Moore, Housing for Good features conversations with guests from across the housing sector, as well as individuals whose work is connected to creating thriving communities. Together, they explore the challenges and opportunities surrounding housing and affordability, discuss factors that affect an individual's ability to obtain and maintain stable housing, and examine local, state, and national responses to one of our most fundamental human needs—housing.

In this milestone 100th episode of Housing for Good, Chris Goodson and Karolyn Moore explore the lasting effects of childhood trauma and how early experiences can influence relationships, trust, education, employment, and housing stability throughout adulthood. Drawing from their own personal experiences, Chris and Karolyn discuss the impact of abuse, instability, frequent moves, and other adverse childhood experiences. They also examine how unresolved trauma can contribute to homelessness and housing insecurity, and why supportive relationships, safe housing, and access to services are essential for long-term stability and healing. 🎧 Episode 98 - Revisiting The Homelessness You Don’t See

This week on Housing for Good, Chris Goodson and Karolyn Moore continue their conversation with Kym Crupper about navigating school support systems, Section 504 plans, IEPs, and the realities many families face while dealing with housing instability and educational challenges. The discussion explores the emotional and practical difficulties parents encounter when advocating for their children, how instability impacts learning, and why building trust between schools, families, and support organizations matters so deeply. The episode also highlights the importance of community resources, school meal programs, and creating environments where every child feels supported, valued, and able to succeed.
