It's coming home! Football is coming home but is it iconic? Well this week take a look at the beautiful game and the most watched sporting competition that has been enjoyed by over a tenth of the entire world population as we look at the FIFA World Cup. This year the tournament comes to us from the USA, Mexico and Canada so in honor of this we look at the cup competitions history, the failed attempts by others to make their own world cup style tournament, the stolen trophies and the weird rules around the trophy, we also look at some of the icky aspects of the branding, bribery and corruption that surrounds the world of Football. You…go to your podcast app, and you select…I don’t know, that boring old politics/ finance / book recommendation podcast for instance because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put in your ears, but what don’t know that podcast is not just educational, it’s not just entertainment, it’s actually How to be an Icon. You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that, in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of How to be an Icon episodes, and then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent, wasn’t it?… who showed How to be an Icon patreon extras. I think we need a jacket here. And then How to be an Icon quickly showed up in the collections of different podcast apps.
