Acerca de Let’s Unpack That

Hey, I’m Kris — an American living in South Africa who loves talking about the real stuff of faith and life. I’ve spent my adult life in ministry, walking with people as they wrestle with what they believe and how that belief shapes the way they live. Let’s Unpack That is a space for women — whether you’re curious about truth, faith, what’s real and trustworthy; or have known Jesus for years — to pause, reflect, and engage with truth that changes everything. It’s honest, raw, hope-filled, and I’m excited to go there with you. Bring your questions and curiosity and let’s unpack it together.

Should women “shoot their shot?”

In this episode of *Let’s Unpack That*, we continue the conversation from our previous discussion on pursuing the right person, at the right time, in the right way, by tackling a question many Christians wrestle with today: Should women “shoot their shot,”? Within Christian circles there are often three common perspectives. We’ll look at these and see what the Bible says in response. The episode also addresses the cultural pressures shaping dating today. In a moment where masculinity is often criticized and women are pushed toward independence that dismisses relational interdependence, the gospel offers a different vision—one where men grow in courage and responsibility, and women grow in wisdom, dignity, and relational openness.

What does the Bible say about dating? Can’t I date anyone I like?

In this episode, Kris explores how Christians date today—and how much of our approach has been shaped more by culture than by Scripture. Together, we unpack the modern “Christian dating” model and contrast it with the relational framework we actually see in the Bible: brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, and the purposeful pathway toward covenant. Drawing from Scripture’s vision of holiness, wisdom, and God’s covenantal love toward us, this episode invites listeners to re-orient their hearts around God’s design for relationships—right time, right person, right way. With pastoral clarity and biblical grounding, Kris challenges us to consider not just who we date, but how we relate, and whether our dating practices reflect the way God lovingly and faithfully relates to us.

How do you discern false doctrine? How do you know what’s real and what’s not?

In this episode, Kris unpacks one of the most pressing questions facing Christians today: How do we discern false doctrine? With Scripture as the ultimate authority, Kris walks through what the Bible actually says about false teaching and false teachers—and why not everything labeled “Christian” is rooted in Christ. From Paul’s strong warning in Galatians to Jesus’ own words about wolves in sheep’s clothing, this episode emphasizes the importance of knowing the true gospel so well that counterfeits are easy to spot. Using the U.S. Mint illustration and Psalm 1 as a framework, Kris encourages listeners to become people steeped in God’s Word, developing spiritual discernment not through fear or suspicion, but through deep familiarity with the truth.

I don’t need to ask people for advice on decisions I make do I? I am an adult.

How does the Bible actually respond to this question? In this episode, we explore Scripture’s surprisingly direct answer to radical independence—and why maturity, in God’s economy, is not marked by self-sufficiency but by humility. We’ll look at wisdom literature that warns against being “right in our own eyes,” and we’ll unpack the sobering story of King Rehoboam, the young king who rejected the counsel of seasoned elders in favor of the advice of his peers—with devastating consequences for an entire nation. Is refusing counsel a sign of strength… or a warning light Scripture tells us not to ignore? We’ll explore what biblical wisdom really looks like—and why listening might be one of the most adult things we can do.

Do I really have to go to church? What if I want to follow God on my own.

In this episode of Let’s Unpack That, we take the question head-on, with honesty and without the guilt trips. We’re digging into four foundational truths about community, why God designed it, and why we can’t fully follow Him in isolation, even when independence feels easier. We’ll look at what Scripture says about belonging, worshiping together, spiritual growth, accountability, and mission. And we’ll unpack the deeper question behind the question: Is church a religious obligation… or a divine invitation into something we actually need? If you’ve ever wondered whether church is optional, unnecessary, outdated, or just plain overwhelming—this one’s for you. Let’s pull it apart, sift through the noise, and get back to God’s original design for His people: together, not alone. Press play. Bring your questions. We’ll unpack the rest.
