Your first $500 online is already in your phone (Ep. 9)

You do not need an audience to make your first $500 online. You need fifty names. And chances are, most of them are already in your phone. This episode is for the Christian woman who has been waiting for more followers, more visibility, or more confidence before giving herself permission to start. If you've ever thought, “I don't have an audience, an email list, or enough people to sell to,” this conversation will challenge that belief. After completing the Money Beliefs Mirror exercise and confronting the lies you've inherited about money, a new question often appears: “Who would actually buy from me?” Most online business advice says the same thing: build an audience first, then monetize later. While that may work for some businesses, it is not always the path to your first sale. In this episode, Salime shares the story of a trip to Rwanda that helped shape what would eventually become Latinpreneurs. Invited to teach a small seminar for a group of Christian women, she spent several hours walking them through the math of building a digital business that funds their calling. The room was simple. No polished presentation. No sophisticated systems. Just fifteen women, a whiteboard, and years of experience distilled into practical teaching. When the seminar ended, six women approached her asking for more support. Within days, three became paying clients. Those three clients became the very first revenue Latinpreneurs ever generated. There was no website, no funnel, no email sequence, and no large social media following. What existed was trust, real relationships, and a clear invitation. That experience revealed a powerful truth: Your first sales rarely come from strangers. They come from people who already know you, trust you, and have experienced the value you bring. That's why this episode introduces the framework called The First 50. The First 50 is built around three simple circles: Circle One: People you've helped over the last few years. Circle Two: People who have asked about your work, your expertise, or told you that you should charge for what you do. You took a vow of poverty you never signed (Ep. 8)

The money guilt you feel as a Christian woman did not start in you. It is a vow of poverty designed for the cloistered nun that got transferred quietly to every Latina believer over five centuries. And it is costing you, your mother, and your grandmother more than any of you know. This is the biblical theology of money episode for the Christian woman whose hand shakes when she writes the price. You filled out the Evidence File last week. You read it every morning. The voice that said who do you think you are got quieter. You started believing, for the first time in maybe years, that what you have is real and worth charging for. And then you wrote down the price. And your hand shook. Not the same voice this time. A different one. Older. Heavier. The one that says wanting money is the opposite of being faithful. The one that says a real Christian woman serves out of love, not for pay. The one that says if God wants you to have it, He will provide, you do not have to ask. I want to tell you something that took me a long time to figure out. For the first ten years of my business in China, I undercharged. Not by a little. By a lot. I would do a project that should have cost a client between fifteen and twenty thousand dollars. Source the supplier. Visit the factories. Negotiate. Run quality control. Manage the shipping. The whole thing. I would charge four. Sometimes three. I told myself I was being a good Christian. I told myself I was being a good steward. I told myself I was building relationships and serving people. But underneath all of that, there was something else. Every time I had to put a number in an email, my hands got cold. I would write the price. Erase it. Write it again, lower. Send it before I could change my mind. That voice did not start with me. I grew up Catholic. So did most of us. So did most of our mothers and our grandmothers and the women who poured into us. And in the Catholic tradition that shaped Latin America for five hundred years, there is a beautiful, deeply held value of poverty as holiness. The priest takes a vow of poverty. The nun takes a vow of poverty. The saint who gives everything away is the one we put on the wall. Francis of Assisi. Mother Teresa. That is not a small thing. That is a real and beautiful piece of Christian history. I respect it. But here is what happened over time. The vow of poverty was meant for a specific kind of vocation, a specific kind of calling, that involves a specific kind of giving up. And somewhere along the way, the vow that belonged to the cloistered nun and the missionary priest got transferred, quietly, to everyone. To your abuela who felt guilty saving for retirement. To your mom who never charged what she was worth for the alterations she did out of her kitchen. To you the first time you tried to charge a friend for something you knew was worth more than what you asked for. We inherited a vow we never took. And then it got reinforced by one misquoted verse. Money is the root of all evil. That is not what the verse says. First Timothy six ten says the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil. The love. The thing your heart bows down to. Not the money. Not the having. Not the earning. The loving. One word changes everything. In this episode I walk you through the actual biblical theology of money. First Timothy six. Y luego escribiste el precio. Y te tembló la mano. No es la misma voz esta vez. Es otra. Más vieja. Más pesada. La que dice que querer dinero es lo opuesto a ser fiel. La que dice que una mujer cristiana de verdad sirve por amor, no por paga. La que dice que si Dios quiere que lo tengas, Él te lo va a dar, no tienes que pedirlo. Te quiero contar algo que me tomó mucho tiempo entender. Los primeros diez años de mi negocio en China cobré de menos. No por poquito. Por mucho. Hacía un proyecto que debía costarle al cliente entre quince y veinte mil dólares. Buscar al proveedor. Visitar las fábricas. Negociar. Manejar el control de calidad. La gestión del envío. Todo. Cobraba cuatro. A veces tres. Me decía a mí misma que estaba siendo una buena cristiana. Me decía que estaba siendo una buena mayordoma. Me decía que estaba construyendo relaciones y sirviendo a la gente. Pero debajo de todo eso, había otra cosa. Cada vez que tenía que poner un número en un correo, se me enfriaban las manos. Escribía el precio. Lo borraba. Lo escribía otra vez, más bajo. Lo mandaba antes de cambiar de opinión. Esa voz no empezó conmigo. Crecí católica. Como casi todas. Como casi todas nuestras mamás y abuelas y las mujeres que se nos derramaron. Y en la tradición católica que dio forma a América Latina por quinientos años, hay un valor profundo de la pobreza como santidad. El sacerdote toma un voto de pobreza. La monja toma un voto de pobreza. La santa que da todo es la que ponemos en la pared. Francisco de Asís. Madre Teresa. Eso no es cosa pequeña. Es una pieza real y hermosa de la historia cristiana. La respeto. Pero esto fue lo que pasó con el tiempo. El voto de pobreza fue diseñado para un tipo específico de vocación, un tipo específico de llamado, que involucra un tipo específico de renuncia. Y en algún punto del camino, el voto que le pertenecía a la monja del convento y al sacerdote misionero se transfirió, en silencio, a todas. A tu abuela que se sintió culpable ahorrando para su vejez. A tu mamá que cosió desde la cocina por veinte años y nunca cobró lo que valía. A ti la primera vez que le pusiste precio a algo que sabías que costaba más de lo que pediste. Heredamos un voto que nunca tomamos. Y se reforzó con un versículo mal citado. El dinero es la raíz de todos los males. Eso no es lo que dice el versículo. Primera de Timoteo seis diez dice que el AMOR al dinero es raíz de toda clase de males. El amor. La cosa a la que tu corazón se postra. No el dinero. No el tenerlo. No el ganarlo. El amarlo. Una palabra cambia todo. En este episodio te llevo por la teología bíblica real del dinero. The voice telling you you're not qualified isn't yours (Ep. 7)

The voice that tells you you are not qualified to start a business is not yours. It is older than you. It is louder than you. And until you name where it actually came from, it is going to keep winning. This is the imposter syndrome episode for the Christian woman who has done everything right and still cannot believe she is allowed to start. You finished writing your Mission Sentence last week. You read it the way I told you to. Tonight before bed. Tomorrow morning before email. You looked at it and for a few hours something inside you said yes. This is what I am doing. And then the voice showed up. Who do you think you are. You. The one who works in HR. The one who teaches second grade. The one who has not finished college. The one who is forty seven years old and starting over. The one whose mother sacrificed everything so you would have a steady job and you are about to throw it away to sell something on the internet. That voice did not start in you. And it is not telling you the truth. I want to take you to a specific room. It is two thousand and seven. Guangzhou. I am twenty seven years old. I am sitting at a negotiating table in a factory in an industrial district you have to know exists to find. Eight men in the room. Suits. Cigarettes. Those tiny tea cups they keep refilling. I am the only woman. The only person under thirty. The only person who is not Chinese. And the entire time I am sitting there with my binder, my list of specifications, my price target I have to hold, there is a voice in my head saying quién te crees. Who do you think you are to walk in here and tell these men what your client needs. For the first two years of my career in China, that voice was louder than I was. What changed was not a single moment. There was no verse that suddenly spoke to me. No mentor pulling me aside. It was a slow, quiet thing that came over months. The voice telling me I did not belong was not telling me the truth. The truth was simpler. I had been called to that work. I had been prepared for that work. My languages. My education. My willingness to get on a plane. None of that was an accident. That was assignment. And here is what I want you to hear before we go any further. I am twenty years past that factory in Guangzhou. I have built digital businesses and platforms across three continents. I have helped hundreds of believers. And the voice is still here. It showed up again when I started Reformadas. It showed up again when I started Latinpreneurs. It is showing up right now. While I am recording this episode. For you. I am not teaching you this from the other side.
