Optimisation Culture - Lifemaxxing, Meaning and What's Next For Men's Therapy Hub

Welcome to Episode 37 of No Man's an Island [https://menstherapyhub.co.uk/podcast/] – and the final episode of Season One. The episode begins with a discussion about a viral clip from entrepreneur and podcast host Steven Bartlett, which sparks a broader conversation about optimisation culture, wellness trends and the pressure many men feel to constantly improve themselves. Chris and Jett explore the rise of biohacking, productivity culture, longevity obsessions and the growing belief that every aspect of life must be measured, tracked and maximised. Together they examine what can be lost when life becomes a performance project. The conversation touches on perfectionism, burnout, workaholism, body image, masculinity, social comparison and the fear of not being enough. They explore how anxiety often sits beneath many forms of self-improvement and why purpose, connection and enjoyment may be more important than chasing the perfect sleep score, body composition or productivity metric. The second half of the episode focuses on the future of Men's Therapy Hub. Chris shares updates on the growth of the platform, the decision to invest in a completely new website and plans to expand into the US market. Jett discusses the opportunities and challenges of launching Men's Therapy Hub in America, as well as the wider vision of creating a community where therapists can learn more about working with men and where male clients can more easily find support. Yoga for Men – Flexibility, Mental Health and Finding Strength with Jake Panasevich

Welcome to Episode 36 of No Man's an Island – a podcast powered by Men's Therapy Hub [https://menstherapyhub.com], a directory of male therapists for male clients. In this episode, Dr Jett Stone speaks with Jake Panasevich, a yoga teacher, health science journalist, podcast host and former Division I collegiate wrestler whose journey into yoga began after years of injuries, chronic pain and an identity crisis following the end of his wrestling career. Jake shares how yoga became a turning point in his life, helping him recover physically while also rebuilding his sense of self. Together, Jett and Jake explore the connection between physical flexibility and psychological flexibility, discussing how many men become trapped by rigid ideas of masculinity, performance and identity. They examine how yoga can create opportunities for men to reconnect with their bodies, process emotions and develop greater self-awareness. The conversation looks at why so many men avoid yoga, the barriers that stop them attending classes and how male-only spaces can help create a sense of safety, community and belonging. Jake explains why pain, injury and health scares often become the catalyst that brings men to yoga and how many discover benefits that extend far beyond physical fitness. Jett and Jake also discuss depression, anxiety and the growing evidence supporting yoga as a tool for mental wellbeing. They explore mindfulness, breathwork, emotional regulation, social connection and the ways yoga may help men develop resilience both physically and psychologically. The conversation touches on identity, vulnerability, self-acceptance, performance culture and why learning when to slow down can be just as important as learning when to push forward. Progressive Masculinity – Boys, Role Models and the Future of Masculinity with Mike Nicholson

Welcome to Episode 35 of No Man’s an Island – a podcast powered by Men’s Therapy Hub, a directory of male therapists for male clients. In this conversation, Chris Hemmings speaks with Mike Nicholson, founder and director of Progressive Masculinity, an organisation delivering workshops in schools across the UK focused on boys, masculinity and emotional wellbeing. Before founding Progressive Masculinity, Mike spent 20 years working as a teacher. During that time, he became increasingly aware of how many boys were struggling silently with pressure, shame, hopelessness and rigid expectations around masculinity. Together, Chris and Mike explore boys’ mental health, masculinity, emotional literacy, rites of passage and the growing sense of hopelessness many young men feel about the future. They discuss why boys often struggle to talk openly, the impact of social media and online influencers, why male role models matter and how schools can better support boys without shaming or attacking them. They also explore working-class identity, fatherlessness, pornography, suicide ideation, youth culture, accountability, vulnerability and why boys need spaces where they feel psychologically safe enough to be honest. This episode is a conversation about masculinity, education and the importance of giving boys the language, community and role models they need to become healthy men. Gen Z Mental Health – Social Media, Therapy and Youth Voice with Conor Warren

Welcome to Episode 33 of No Man’s an Island – a podcast powered by Men’s Therapy Hub [https://menstherapyhub.co.uk], a directory of male therapists for male clients. In this conversation, Chris Hemmings speaks with Conor Warren, founder and CEO of Spark UK, one of the UK’s leading youth-led mental health organisations. Connor started Spark UK at just 14 after becoming a mental health ambassador at school and seeing how outdated, irrelevant and disconnected many mental health resources felt to young people. Together, Chris and Connor explore Gen Z mental health, anxiety, therapy, eating difficulties, school counselling and what it means to speak openly as a young man in a culture where many boys still feel pressure to deal with things alone. They also discuss social media, the Manosphere, the impact of Andrew Tate, why some young men resist therapy and why mental health education needs to be shaped by young people rather than simply delivered to them. This episode is a conversation about youth voice, emotional literacy and why schools need to trust young people to lead the mental health conversations that affect them most. Understanding Porn Addiction – Shame, Compulsion and Control with Dr Shane Kraus

Welcome to Episode 33 of No Man’s An Island – a podcast powered by Men’s Therapy Hub [https://menstherapyhub.co.uk], a directory of male therapists for male clients. In this episode, Dr Jett Stone is joined by Dr Shane Kraus, one of the leading clinical psychologists working on compulsive sexual behaviour and behavioural addictions more broadly. Shane is an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he directs the Behavioral Addictions Lab. He is also a co-author of The Landscape of Pornography Use by Men in the United States, published by the American Institute for Boys and Men. They explore why pornography remains such an underfunded and morally loaded area of research, despite being one of the most common unsupervised digital experiences in the lives of boys and men. Shane explains the difference between compulsive sexual behaviour disorder, problematic pornography use and self-reported porn addiction. He also unpacks the role of shame, moral incongruence, religious values and compulsivity, and why it is important not to pathologise all porn use. The conversation also covers early exposure to pornography, the role of algorithms, loneliness, OnlyFans, AI-generated sexual content and the impact of smartphones on boys’ development. Shane and Jett discuss what therapists, parents and men themselves can do to approach porn use with more honesty, less shame and better support.
