#053: S.O.S: All the worlds of English are a stage

A long, long time ago...an idea of a student acting group was born--René Schallegger's vision has come true and has been on the stage for two productions already. The current troupe of actors joins us today on the podcast along with their indefatigable instructor Elena (who also organizes the play) to share their experiences about putting on a production of Nick Payne's "Constellations" at the Kammerlichtspiele Klagenfurt. The Department of English's student theatre group, S.O.S. (Students on Stage), are directed by Sabine Kristof-Kranzelbinder and manage the multidimensional, fragmented plot with aplomb. Tune in to hear about their responses to the production! June 20 / June 21 @ 8 p.m. (Kammerlichtspiele Klagenfurt) Check out the S.O.S. theatre group here: S.O.S. #052: ♫♪♬ Hey, June, ...

... (insert funny pun that does not violate copyright infringement and to support our new premium channel). ♫♪♬ It's getting hot in here, so take off ... work to study for your exams! Today's episode catches you up on all the fune events you can go to in June while you're muddling through exam prep (which we also give you a few tips for). Uhmmmmm... other than the obligatory Lord of the Rings reference (the Pope quoted Gandalf recently) we'll keep this short so you can listen to the podcast and then get back to studying. The early bird gets the 1 (ring).  Check out English Department's Instagram channel [https://www.instagram.com/english_aau/], S.O.S. #051: L1 + X + Up + Down: René Respawned

"Look to the podcast at first light on the 27th day." ... and you might just be in luck to hear how our colleague René traversed hill and dale on his quest to publish. Tamara was still looking to the East at 8 am and was having second breakfast - which is probably why she forgot to hit the record button initially. This is the most recent in our series highlighting department members, in which we learn more about their background and research interests. René shares insight into his love for both Canada and ludic media (especially video games and role-playing games) and the many positive influences on his development as a researcher in the field.  Listen to the KCCS episode here: #033: Ô Canada, O Klagenfurt! Today's episode is a follow up to episode #041 [https://open.spotify.com/episode/0NcRudMqiGuXNiTcCyd6W4?si=Y25UgqZuR1qWuU7w3i-emg] about study and research opportunities overseas. #049: Investigating Indigenous Intersections of Aging and Disability with Nina De Bettin Padolin and Eva-Maria Trinkaus

Joining us on the podcast today is Nina De Bettin Padolin, a scholar in the field of aging (age) studies from the University of Graz, along with our colleague Eva-Maria Trinkaus, who also specializes in this field. Our discussion today primarily focuses on aging, care, and disability in literature (in particular, indigenous storytelling) and other media and the way they can inform (non-Western) understandings of these topics, which are expressed differently around the world. An important element when analyzing this literature is a consideration of the role colonialism (has) played in the lives and cultures of indigenous people. We hope you tune in to find out why the humanities have so much to offer in terms of understanding aging in our modern world.
