Acerca de Stars of Sacrifice: WWII

Welcome to Stars of Sacrifice: WWII—the official podcast of Stories Behind the Stars.More than 421,000 Americans lost their lives in World War II. Through Stars of Sacrifice: WWII podcast, we bring these stories to life on an audio platform—reaching younger generations, those who are able to dream because of the brave.Press play, and step into the stories of those whose courage shaped the world we live in today.

1st Lt. Charles A. Himmler, US Army Air Corp, KIA Dec 17, 1944

Charles Himmler's story reminds us that victory in World War II depended not only on the soldiers fighting on the front lines but also on the young airmen who climbed into heavy bombers day after day, knowing every mission could be their last. He left behind his family, his hometown of Trafford, and the promise of a life just beginning. Today, because we tell his story, he is remembered. Welcome to Stars of Sacrifice: WWII, the official podcast of Stories Behind the Stars, where we honor the lives of the more than 400,000 Americans who gave their lives during the Second World War. Every name represents a story—a family, a hometown, and a future that was never realized. And a family who carries a gold star. 2nd Lt. Clement J. Kochczynski, US Army Air Corp, KIA Jan 2, 1945

Clement distinguished himself both academically and athletically. At Mount Carmel High School, he excelled in his studies and earned the respect of his classmates as captain of the basketball team. Few could have imagined that the quiet, determined student would soon find himself at the controls of one of the most powerful aircraft of World War II. Thank you for joining me. 2nd Lt. Clement J. Kochczynski story was researched and memorialized by Chris Moyer for the Stories Behind the Stars mission — a national effort of volunteers dedicated to preserving the stories of more than 400,000 Americans who gave their lives in service. On Christmas Day, December 25, 1944, Lt Dean Paul Trigonides, the son of Greek immigrants prepared for yet another combat mission. The aircraft never made it to its target. More than 421,000 Americans lost their lives during World War II — but they were never just numbers. They were sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors… each one the center of someone’s world. Behind every name is a story, and behind every loss, a family forever marked by a gold star. This podcast exists to tell those stories — to remember who they were, how they lived, and what they sacrificed. Because when we preserve their memories and honor their service, we ensure that the true cost of freedom is never forgotten.
