🎙️ Unfiltered Friday: Being Present in a World Obsessed with What's Next

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2359063/fan_mail/new] What if the best view isn't at the next level? What if it's right where you're standing today? In this week's Unfiltered Friday, I dive into something that's been on my mind all week: presence. We live in a culture that constantly tells us to chase the next promotion, the next opportunity, the next achievement, the next level. We're conditioned to believe happiness is waiting somewhere in the future, just beyond our current circumstances. But in our pursuit of "what's next," how often do we miss what's right in front of us? As I've been studying to become an End-of-Life Doula, I've heard a phrase that continues to resonate deeply with me: > "Being present is the highest form of authenticity." It's one of the reasons I'm so drawn to this work. At the end of life, there are no shortcuts, no distractions, and no pretending. Presence is the gift. The same was true during my years working in a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department. When lives hang in the balance, you can't be thinking about tomorrow. You must be completely present because every second matters. I also explore the connection between presence and flow state—those moments when you're so immersed in what you're doing that time seems to disappear. Whether it's meaningful work, a conversation, a hobby, or intimacy with someone you love, the magic happens when you're fully there. This week also brought an unexpected reminder. I started driving Uber passengers again and had the privilege of spending time with an 83-year-old grandmother. The ride itself wasn't remarkable. The connection was. Simply slowing down, listening, and being present with another human being became one of the highlights of my entire week. In a world filled with distractions, notifications, and endless striving, maybe the most radical thing we can do is simply be here. Because connection requires presence. Authenticity requires presence. Love requires presence. Life requires presence. In This Episode: ✅ Why we're conditioned to constantly chase the next level ✅ The hidden cost of never slowing down ✅ What trauma care taught me about being fully present ✅ How End-of-Life Doula work is rooted in authentic presence ✅ The connection between presence, flow state, and intimacy ✅ An unexpected lesson from an 83-year-old Uber passenger ✅ Why the best view in life might be exactly where you are If you've been feeling distracted, overwhelmed, or constantly focused on what's next, this episode is for you. Take a breath. Slow down. And join me for a conversation about the power of being present. 🎧 The Men of the House Podcast explores the unfiltered truths of fatherhood, self-care, mental health, purpose, relationships, and navigating the chaos of everyday life. 🔗 Follow & Listen: https://linktr.ee/richardpcraft Support the show [https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/RichardPCraft]
