"Gods of the Earth" exudes more ambition, greater accomplishment, and an overall grander scale. Its colossal, mountaintop-friendly hooks, thunderous drumming, and oceanic bass lines cut through the air like a scythe, while frontman J.D. Cronise's ominous vocals weave fantastical tales rich with myth and mythology. The album is adorned with waves of powerful riffs and low-end thunder, dominating tracks like the immediate "Maiden, Mother & Crone," "Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians," "Under the Boughs," and the paralysing "The Black River."
For me personally, this album has always held a deep kinship. It remains evocative and evergreen, a testament to The Sword's enduring legacy that will continue to live on.
